I was crying my ASS off when she dedicated her award to Florence Ballard.

Not being much of an AI fan, I had understood she had been voted off early, and Simon Cowell condemned her on her departure. And now, as a GG winner, she is now a possible Oscar contender.

Simon: Pffffffft!

5. She was heavier in her "American Idol" days but I don't remember Simon being

particularly cruel towards her, in fact he raved about her performance of "Circle of Life" from "The Lion King." She then made her reputation on AI by singing "Weekend in New England" and "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Leaving," but she still finished in 7th place on that season. Her real booster, though, was Randy Jackson, who re-nominated her for a finalist in the "wild card" episode of American Idol. If he hadn't done that, she might well be completely unknown today.
