Any Vegans ever consider going Jain?
That is, not only no meat, eggs, milk, etc... but no roots or killing of the plant...

Oh, and you can't step on bugs and have to wear a face mask to prevent inhaling gnats.

7. They're be able to eat non-root fruit and vegetables I assume, and berries and such.
Soybean isn't a root and presumably doesn't kill the plant, so soy products are still acceptable I'm also guessing.

17. Soybean harvesting kills the plant
They use combines to harvest soybeans. Combines cut the stalks off almost at ground level, so the soy plant is toast when the beans are harvested.

I don't think you could be a devout Jain in the United States if you didn't own fifty acres to grow food on.

21. No, moran. Soybean plants live out their natural life before being harvested
If you ever saw soy bean plants in the fall, you'd know they turn brown. This is because they are dying. The beans are harvested when they are as dry as possible, that is after they have stopped getting water and nutrients from the soil. That is, after they have died. The same is true for corn.

This "they kill soy beans" argument will be an appropriate response to veg*ism, when and only when you eat hogs who died of old age.

You should get out of the city and see a real plant once in a while.

9. Jainism is a religion. You would have to have a religious conversion
experience to become a Jain.

I suppose a vegan could adopt a Jain lifestyle without the associated religious belief, but I don't think that would make one "Jain"...just a stricter vegan is all.

20. Only Jain monks wear the face mask.
I have two Jain friends. Neither of them wear the mask, and they live their lives just like any other American Vegan.

Thanks for passing on the stereotype, though.
