Colorado Rockies To Hold "Faith Day" At Ballpark - ("Faith" = Christian)

The church is one of many across the Denver area invited to "Faith Day" at the ballpark.

The Colorado Rockies for the past two seasons have hosted "Christian Family Day," offering church groups discounted tickets and putting on post-game shows featuring Christian bands and testimonials from Christian players and coaches.

The team has not publicized the events beyond church circles, so most fans may not have noticed.

The Rockies have scheduled this year's promotion for the July 29 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and have changed the name in an apparent effort to make it more inclusive. While the team has put a new label on the day, it's unclear whether it will alter the content. The Rockies are still ironing out the details.

Sports teams increasingly are using faith days - by faith, they usually mean Christian - as marketing tools to fill the seats.

The Rockies are not alone. The St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers are among the baseball clubs doing a variation on the theme, along with many minor-league teams.

I have no problem with someone's faith but...I dunno. Rox are kinda hinky that way anyhow, though. There was some stink last year about the club's stance on the subject. Air Force Academy had a major stink with their baseball team, too...REQUIRING their players to be Christian, if I'm not mistaken. Gazette ran a feature on it not too long ago.

Funny I just saw a banner for "Lesbian friendly getaways" from Orbitz. Disney, of course, has gay weekends at DisneyWorld.

Baseball teams do this for midweek games. It is a great way to make sure of selling seats.

Usually a wednesday afternoon Phillies game. Practically the whole command would shut down and since the Vet was not far from the Navy Base we'd walk to the game. Military personnel could get into Phillies games for a buck (cheap seats.)

I got no problem with a team marketing to a specific group. They do it for the military, for various businesses and industries, to children, etc. As long as these teams are only welcoming these groups, and not providing a platform for them to preach from, more power to them. I'm sure Christian money spends as well as other people's money.
