Actually, I've been making myself do real work -- you know, discipline and all to start off the new year. So I've been trying to do a little DU in the morning, maybe just a couple minutes during the afternoon, and maybe a little at night. It's tough to get into the Lounge flow when you're in and out like that, you know?

Oh, and my birthday isn't until February. But I like to talk about it in January, lump all of my February activities into "birthday events," and reminisce about them through March. That way it's not just a day, it's a whole financial quarter.

60. Glen Phillips is maybe my favorite artist.

And it's not really the music that draws me to him, but his philosophy and outlook. He was extremely successful young in life -- his first album with Toad the Wet Sprocket came out when he was just 15 -- and he had to deal with the arc of musical success before he was 21. His songs worked their way from introspective and brooding into a more taoist direction. He's well read in Eastern philosophy and really aware of the basic social problems. I think that's what gets to me on the most basic level -- he's a realist but a smiling comrade just the same, the kind of guy who would be a good friend.
