For those who do use the "Nuclear Blocking Option," what has made you use it?
You don't need to be specific, but what, in general, made you go for it?

Me, at first I didn't like the idea, but then, there was someone who I have never been wild about being extremely insulting to someone who I do like very much. They then were quite unruly about my profession and I decided that enough was enough, so I blocked them.It felt great.

Another was just being ridiculous on another thread and I though, every time I see this poster, they are being ridiculous.

Right now, there is a bit of a snarky response and I'm considering, if it doesn't drop, just to block 'em. There is no need in being snarky for no reason. It was just one of those things where snarkiness is silly.

And now, I'm reading another thread by a friend. I find one poster to be incredibly asinine. Perhaps I should just block them, too.

Am I getting block-happy? :bounce: :bounce:

1. I have one.
Because he's a threadstalking, shit-stirring jerk, I have no clue why he's not banned and no desire to deal with his bullshit until he finally gets his long-overdue and inevitable cookie.

I have no current plans to use UltraReplyBlocker300 on anybody else.

4. I've found everyday ignore works for them
After two and a half years or so on DU, I have a grand total of four people on ignore. I've only had one that needed further restraint to avoid making an ass of themselves, but that person makes me glad the reply blocking feature exists.

7. Yeah, it does suck when it's used to keep someone from disagreeing.
I'm never shy of a little discourse, I'm just tired of some of the overt snarkiness that isn't met with a cute emoticon to know all is well. The hateful stuff isn't fun and it totally drives me crazy!

9. Yeah, this discourse got a bit out of hand.
And I totally was respectful while the attacks flew. But I never was disrespectful in the face of such nastiness. There are still threads that exist to prove it. One of which is pinned up above. I guess it was a miscommunication issue.

But to be completely locked out of a thread when I never once attacked a poster seems rather ridiculous.

I never did anything or said anything nasty to this person. Heck, I don't even think I posted more than once or twice with the individual? Certainly nothing to warrent my entire existence being ignored.

I don't care a whit whether this particular person hates/loathes me (not worth the bother imo) but it is totally frustrating when I have something to add to a conversation and can't.

I can't imagine anyone doing that to you JackBeck, you are so sweet!

I'm on the ridiculous end of this new policy. PM me if you wanna know the gory details.

Those are the rules and I'm one of those who chooses not to use them but there are those around these parts that feels the need to exert their right. So be it. My feelings aren't hurt. But I wish I could respond to friends who do participate in those threads.

28. Because I've had to un-ignore him when it became obvious he
was talking about me, then re-ignore him afterward. Just as Skinner said, it's almost impossible to not want to know what someone is saying about you in a public forum. He's said that I'm unstable, insane, all this bullshit.

Anyway, it's time-consuming and incredibly irritating. It's clear he loathes me as much as I loathe him, so why doesn't he mutually ignore and just GO AWAY? Unbelievable.

A simple search of all my posts would prove that. And I don't loathe anyone here.

Look, I respond to this topic when it's started by other DUers. If I was that spiteful, I would have started a thread of my own and complained to my hearts content. I never outed this poster and have followed all the rules.

27. Well to know if you are just being regularly ignored
Try to send them a pm...if it says poster is not accepting pm's, it either means you are on ignore or that person shut off the pm feature altogether.

Now super delux ignore, means you cannot reply to any thread started by that poster, nor anyone else who responds within that thread. You will see instead of a reply button on the bottom right hand of your screen you will see cannot reply.

51. I've been trying to ignore it.
Hoping that wouldn't fan his interest, but today I finally took him off ignore and started alerting his posts. However, he's subversive enough that he knows not to name me, and he takes it to PM to spread his lies. The mods hate having to unravel these personal vendettas, which is one of the reasons they created Super-ignore in the first place.

I'll leave you with this question...if he didn't do anything wrong, and he's NOT stalking me, why does he keep bringing it up, in every single thread about this topic that's been posted? (I searched his posts after taking him off ignore today). Why doesn't he just ignore me back and go about his life? He is deliberately trying to make my DU experience miserable.

I won't be using super-block in the foreseeable future. I understand legitimate uses of the feature, but many will not be using this feature for the purpose for which it was designed.

39. People who hold a particular belief system about
how the 9/11 attacks were carried out, Specifically that no planes crashed into the WTC. No-planes MIHOPers generally theorise/believe that planes were simulated by holograms, or did not appear at all (and witnesses were paid to say they saw planes crash into the WTC). They also specifically believe that footage of planes crashing into the WTC were faked by the media working for the Bush administration in a huge media-Republican co-conspiracy. There are other technicalities too but I won't go into them now.

93. There's one poster that I've considered using it on
who fits that bill, in my opinion.

The person consistently interprets posts using "facts" which have come from his/her imagination, rather than the original post. To top it off, s/he uses inflammatory language to bully his/her non-existent point..."jesus", "it's pretty shitty of you", etc.
I can't understand why his/her nasty posts haven't been banned more often.

At the same time, I'll occasionally read something this person has wrote which is not so bad...sometimes even kind and appealing.

I'd much rather suggest to the person that s/he calm down before replying to posts with arrogant presumptions. But s/he almost never replies once s/he's taken a nasty swipe at someone. Apology is not in this poster's repertoire.

Now if I could put him on ignore from my cell phone and house phone too, that would be great.

since it comes up for me as "ignored" and I can't read it...

and it's not worth my grief anymore to read it...

funny I never mentioned him, but he outed himself...

I'm trying very hard to ignore my own PITA. It's hard when someone's talking about you in a public forum, you know?

He said he had your myspace email, BTW. I'm only telling you for information in case you need to do anything about it. Want me to alert?

Like I said, I don't hide on the internets.

Besides, I have no idea what a MySpace email even is.

My Myspace page is linked at the bottom of all my poetry threads, so it isn't like he had to look very hard.

Ah, I see he's been TS'd... Thank you Mods... :yourock:

64. I've never used it....to my knowledge, only one person has me blocked.
But I sort of deserve it because I was a flaming asshole. The thing is, when people block you, its hard to send a PM to apologize for your behaviour.

80. Yup, hard to ask why also.
sometimes it is obvious, others less so. So, for people I've offended in the past, I am sorry if I have been a flaming asshole or taken things too far. For the 1 I put on superblock, I apologize for not telling you first, though you can pm me and I will take you off when I can. For those who just don't like me, oh well.

82. true that
I'm a jerk sometimes; it's why I don't put other people on ignore, (excluding cases where there is psychotic harassment), because I am the way I am sometimes.

The only person I know that has me blocked is all piss and vinegar all the time anyway, so it's mutual...I wouldn't use ignore except in extreme cases because it annoys the crap out of me.

76. I don't have anyone even on ignore at the moment.
I went through a spate about six months ago when I was burning up the ignore, using it on everyone who, IMO, was being an irrational arguer, you know, they didn't even have to get into an argument with ME, just if I saw someone in a thread who I thought was being an ass, ZOOP, there went the ignore! I decided I just wanted a kindler, gentler DU experience all around, and I have to admit, it really did help with that.

But I issued a blanket amnesty recently because I was curious, and I haven't had the urge yet to start again.

91. Agreed.
Not gonna do it.

Although I say that now...who knows in the future.

But it's an option that I've clearly never considered when someone has disagreed with me or been offensive. It's not part of my character, but anyone else who wants to partake I have no problems with them. I throw no shade their way.

Yeah. I've done it. I didn't think I would, but then, I found my blood boiling and thought- why the hell not? I come here to be around fun people. I work from home. I get bored and like a little contact that is on my terms meaning I can partake in discussions of my choice and for as long as I want. I don't mind disagreeing, but when someone is being a complete jerk, I don't want to spend my fun time dealing with someone else's emotional shortcomings. The two I have blocked are people who were insulting to a large number of DUers or who were clearly writing racist rants and just so disingenuous I couldn't stand it. I know I'm not the only one to block these particular posters, so I don't feel as if I'm being unfair- they're mean to everyone!

So I used the Nuclear Block Option. Someone can only ride your ass for so long before you either get pissed or call them Daddy.

95. Your comment reminds me of
a conversation I once had with a coworker...a totally fucked-up guy with serious misogeny issues.

He and a friend of his told me about how his mother rode his ass for the entire 2 hours of a car ride.

So I asked him, "Well...Did you tell her to go to hell?"

And both guys, horrified that I would suggest such a thing, said simultaneously, "Of COURSE not!".

I guess I'm a bad daughter; because if my mom treated me like that, I'd tell her to go to hell.
