What is Your Favorite Comic Strip?
The comics in the KC Star right now are really not funny - and not particularly politically astute either. I would like to suggest some better comics to them.

Any ideas.

My favorite is Opus. (only on Sundays)

15. I like the old Funky
I understand the author had to reinvent to keep it fresh. I still read it, just a bit different now.

I'm curious how many papers run Funky. How popular is it?

7. We have that one and I like it, too.
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 09:30 AM by leftyladyfrommo
We have maybe five comics that are funny. The rest are just too weird. Zippy - I have never been able to make heads or tales of that one.
Bizzaro - Not very funny most of the time.

Non Sequitur - pretty good

Cathy- Duh

Get Fuzzy - not funny any more - it used to be.

Pastis may or may not be one warped dude but he's one of best at his craft right now.

35. Don't give FC a bad rap
Sure, it's maudlin as hell, but I think Bil Keane is just catering to his audience. Go to http://familycircus.com/ and look in "Files." The strips from the 60's seem edgier, and be sure to look in "Take-offs." He's obviously a really good sport.

There are always trolls at Amazon writing hilarious reviews of FC books. Look around, there are some good ones here:

I have two subscriptions to electronic delivery of comics. I had never heard of this one before a month ago, but it is hilarious.

On edit: I had the order of the title backwards. And here's a sample.

18. Yes! the Best of All Time = the Far Side
I laughed until I thought I'd die. I have several books of the Far Side and when I'm down I pull them out - they still make me crack up.

And Calvin and Hobbs!

Where are the good ones! We need some really good comics.

29. My web comics
I have them all in a folder on my Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox). I just open 'er up and click on "Open all in tabs." Very convenient.

9 Chickweed Lane
Pibgorn
Get Fuzzy
The Meaning of Lila
Monty
Pearls Before Swine (yesterday's Abe Lincoln one was a scream ("awkward silence"))
Rose is Rose
Soup to Nutz
Clear Blue Water
FoxTrot
FBOFW
Funky
Bizarro
Doonesbury

I really like Clear Blue Water. It ran in the local rag only briefly, I think it was too controversial. The author says:

The phrase "clear blue water," explains author Karen Montague-Reyes, comes from the world of politics. It describes the ideological divide between two political parties. In the Torres house, clear blue water is the gulf of personal experience that Eve and Manny cross each day to make their lives work. Male and female, liberal and conservative, biracial and Hispanic, they approach everyday life from opposite shores and find common ground in their devotion to each other and their determination to raise their children well.

"Mallard Fillmore" is the one I love to HATE. There are times that I find myself yelling at the newspaper, because the audacity of the blatant lies in that strip just drive me crazy.
