This is a nightmare
Most of you know that I went to work for a CPA with certain things negotiated prior to my hire. Not a single item has been honored, except my hourly rate. Basically, I'm a contractor who's having taxes withheld. I don't get paid if I'm not here. I have no idea if I'm even entitled to sick leave or vacation. I had to ask for 2 weeks if we worked the day after Thanksgiving.

The 6 story building we're in is undergoing massive remodeling. The dust is unbelievable as they literally tear this 30 year old building apart. I've had a headache for 3 solid weeks. Today, they're using some type of solvent or adhesive and it's coming through the ventilation system. (I have to wear a respirator to use bleach because I have asthma.) My head is spinning, but leaving means no paycheck and probably losing the job.

I know the easy thing to say is leave. That is not an option. I have $6 in my account until Friday (payday). An afternoon away means $100 gone.

Please keep me in your prayers. I HAVE to get out. I'm at the end of my rope with nothing left to hang on to.

9. Put in an anonymous call to OSHA regarding the dust and fumes.

Whether you stay or not, there's likely other people putting up with what could be dangerous to their health.

Still feeling like I'm coming out of my skin. Something's gotta happen soon or I'll burst.

Be careful, if I find the money, I just might end up out there. :)

Please don't stay someplace like that. Your boss/client apparently doesn't respect you and doesn't sound trustworthy.

I hope you're someplace better sometime soon.

15. I've been looking for over a year
I truly believed that I wouldn't get screwed here, but I have. I didn't think it would be necessary to ask if the building was undergoing major renovations and would we be working right in the middle of it. :eyes:

Thanks for the

Some other company/individual who subleases space in the building has contacted OSHA. Hopefully something good will happen.

19. Hey Lizzie!
Here's some hugs for you:

Are there not any other accountant jobs where you are? I feel so bad for you with your health problems and I sure hate to hear you feeling like you are at the end of your rope.

I'll send some good vibes, and even some prayers your way.

You haven't done anything "wrong", sometimes we end up in shitty situations and we get to figure out how to get out of them I guess. I don't believe there's anything "wrong" with you. (of course I'm just basing that on a feeling and the little that I know you from here, but I believe I'm right!)

Take care Lizziegrace, need ya around for my own sanity (I'm selfish like that!)

20. Is H&R Block hiring right now?
It seems like now would be a good time to get on there if possble at least to work throughout April. I mean if worse comes to worst and you get desperate. If the Bush admin hasn't destroyed OSHA maybe they can come in there and make some changes.

best I can do is 1/2 my salary as a receptionist. I need every dime I make to live. Unfortunately, I was under-employed all last year. My parents helped but I cannot ask them again.

I am documenting everything on my calendar. Another CPA who rents space here is having the same physical symptoms from the construction. We're both extremely allergic to most everything. :(

36. Oh, lizzie
That sounds awful! I agree with the suggestion to call OSHA. If it's not okay to subject non-smokers to cigarette smoke (and it's not), it shouldn't be okay to subject anyone to dust and toxic chemicals!

I'm so sorry, sweetie.

37. Oh, honey. I'm sorry to hear this.
I am sending you best good wishes for a positive resolution to this predicament.

Is there any way you can work from home while this remodel is being done? YOu certainly have a worthy reason and I'd bet there's some liability in there for them, come to think of it. I mean, a 3 wk headache from toxic exposure to chemicals is NOT good!

Hang in there, sweetie. I'm thinking of you... :loveya:
