URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX 508 AM CST WED JAN 17 2007
...THE POTENTIAL EXIST FOR A MAJOR WINTER STORM THIS WEEKEND...
.A POTENT STORM SYSTEM IS DIVING SOUTH ALONG THE WEST COAST OF THE U.S. EARLY THIS MORNING. THIS FEATURE WILL DRAW PACIFIC MOISTURE NORTHWARD AS IT BEGINS TO APPROACH THE WEST TEXAS REGION BY LATE THURSDAY. ARCTIC AIR REMAINS ENTRENCHED OVER MUCH OF THE COUNTRY... AND ANOTHER COLD FRONT IS EXPECTED TO REINFORCE THIS AIRMASS IN ADVANCE OF THURSDAY/S APPROACHING STORM.
CURRENT INDICATIONS SUGGEST THAT A DANGEROUS WINTER STORM MAY UNFOLD...WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL BEGINNING OVER MUCH OF THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION LATE THURSDAY NIGHT OR EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. CONDITIONS APPEAR FAVORABLE FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF MODERATE TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY SNOW FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. WINTRY PRECIPITATION WILL LIKELY SUBSIDE OVER THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION OF WEST TEXAS SATURDAY NIGHT OR EARLY SUNDAY.
SOME UNCERTAINTY REMAINS WITH REGARD TO THIS WINTER STORM SYSTEM. THE TIMING AND EXACT SNOW AMOUNTS WILL DEPEND GREATLY UPON THE STORM/S TRACK. HOWEVER WIDESPREAD AND SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED. PARTS OF THE WATCH AREA ARE EXPECTED TO RECEIVE 6 INCHES WITH ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

:yoiks: It was 75 degrees over the weekend, and it was 65 degrees yesterday morning. It's supposed to be a high today of 34 and snow tonight. I was just complaining on Saturday night about how warm it was.

2. We have not been above freezing all week. |
|
We may get to 34 today, and possibly 44 tomorrow, but that depends on how fast the cold front gets here.
