I had a car accident on the ice today...with injury

I live on a hill where every way down is very steep. I saw the huge ice patch coming so I slowed way down, but the ice was on a slope and as soon as I hit it, my heavy Intrepid started to swing around. I built up momentum as I slid sideways down the ice patch. I could not regain control of the car. I slid off the street and hit a utility poll knocking down the power lines. Both of my airbags deployed. I think the car is totaled.

Thats when I felt the blood start to trickle down my face. When I looked in the mirror I had blood pouring down my forehead and from my nose. My jacket was so covered it looked like I had murdered someone!

After the ambulance got there, they couldn't approach the car until the utility company showed up to make sure the power lines weren't still energized. They finally got to me and made sure I didn't have any back or neck injuries before they got me out of the car.
I was taken to the ER where I got five stitches in my forehead right below my hair line and I've been told to watch for signs of concussion for the next 24 hours.

In conclusion, class, BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

2. Oh god, Cannikin!
I hope you're going to be all right. Pretty awful to have to sit there bleeding while everyone waits for an electrician.

Sit still and sit it out. I hope there's no concussion and you can get back out as soon as it's safe.

7. Glad you are not hurt worse.
Just got the final decent offer from insurance co last night for totalling my car in Dec, sliding backwards down a hill I couldn't make it up and bouncing off a tree. Glad you didn't get hurt worse, keep an eye on yourself because it can take a couple days for all the aches and pains to show up. Go get a massage in a few days (speaking from experience, it can really help). Glad you are not hurt worse.

29. Rock salt in the trunk is no help
... when you're driving. If you hit ice, you have way more momentum than friction. Add a downhill slope, and you're vehicle is just a hockey puck, or curling stone, and you're going for a ride.

The salt comes in handy if you need to drive uphill to get out of a drivewy, it'll clear that little bit.

but I'd be happier if you hadn't had the accident to begin with. It happened to me the other day but I managed to get the car on the grass before I hit the guard-rail and it slowed me down enough so I could stop. Cripes.  So sorry about the car, so sorry about your head.

19. Yowza!
I had an ice related accident yesterday too; edging over to avoid some icy branches over my driveway I hit the corner of my porch. But the only injury was to my bank account -- to replace a knuckle on the rear suspension. I didn't know cars had knuckles.

So glad you are okay!

when you lose control of your car it is the worst feeling.

Take good care for the next few days. Soak in a hot tub or three. You will probably be very sore.

21. I have some wild ice rides but
never anything as bad as what happened to you today. Glad you aren't seriously injured, you can always get another car.

I once slid sideways down an ice-covered steep street right towards another vehicle who had just done the same thing. At the last second, my tires caught a bare spot, my car swung around, and I neatly knocked out the tail light of the other vehicle. That was the only damage, but the slide down the hill was terrifying.

Ice means no control at all.

and a little ice glaze on Monday

It's still cold, but amazingly the ice is gone, except there may be some patches around. I haven't gotten out too far in it because luckily I don't live in a huge place and I don't have to travel far to do what needs to be done.
