Do we have a new genre? Crapsical?

Seriously, I think I'm going to enjoy this piece...Daniel Roumain's "Harlem Essay".

2. At one point the music is scored for us to use the "N" word.
"Tribe n-----!"
The conductor decided that this goes beyond the bounds of good taste, particularly since the majority of the orchestra is not African American. So we're substituting the word "brotha".

I'm very glad.

4. Check out his website...

He's a violinist himself. Harlem Essay has an interesting fiddle part, including a solo for the last chair second violin.

tweaked the score. ;-) Looks like an interesting fellow. His dreads are like mine but I rarely wear them loose after having one get caught in my keys during a concert.

8. That must have been embarrassing!
I learned the hard way that crocheted outfits do not make good concert attire. There are too many parts of the violin that can get tangled up in the stitches!

Roumain's tour iscoming to the DC area in early February. I might check them out.
I don't know how this rap thing is going to work out. When we read the parts the other night, we read the rap with rhythmic perfection, and no expression whatsoever. This will be quite a challenge...

9. I was mortified!!!
It happened while I was playing "Twisted.":silly: The audience thought it was hilarious. I launched into a monologue about how I'd remembered EVERYTHING except my hair gummi and a girl came up to the stage to give me hers.

This project sounds veddy, veddy interesting. Forgive me if the thought of a group of classical musicians rapping molto expressivo, erraaa...

10. That's the thing...
It's not like we can make it sound like Shakespeare; but it's not expressionless either. I think we're going to have to take a field trip to some funky neighborhoods.
