Just heard a few minutes ago. He was working out and he just keeled over. At a guess, I'd say aneurysm, but that's just a guess.
Poor guy was only 19.

I'm a little sad that I wasn't there. Doubt I could have done jack, but I was in the library, a few hundred feet away. If I'd known, you bet your butt I'd have made an effort.

9. That's the hardest thing about things like this... |
|
It makes you wish you were there. But you're probably right...It probably wouldn't have helped anything.
Every now and then I read a story about a young athlete who dies from a previously undetected heart defect. They never know until it's too late.

that there aren't a few stories about this. I wrote one of them, in 1996. That kid was only 15.
One thing I learned in doing the story was that school athletic physicals are rarely sufficient, as are EMT services at games (never mind practices).

8. Could be a heart block too. |
|
I remember reading somewhere the proposition that there should be a defibrillator available at all practices and games. This happens fairly regularly.

10. How horribly, horribly sad... |
|
I hate hearing about things like this happening to young people. Somehow it just seems so....wrong.
