During an early spring ski trip to Whistler, British Columbia, you decide to hike "off-piste" into the steep, unpatrolled backcountry to ski the deep powder above the tree line. Just as you are about to begin your long ski run down the mountain, you hear an ominous rumbling. I thought you were never supposed to try and out run an avalanche. It was better to
continue moving perpendicular to the slope of the hill.
