Just thought I would ask.

I haven't carried a purse in many years.

1. I don't carry a purse.
I had one once for a formal thing a while back (Mom got married) and I never heard the end of it. Apparently I don't do girly well.

I actually have this thing:I put my purse in the car (it's very utilitarian with a lot of pockets and such) and put my id and money/debit card in one of my pockets. Around here most ppl don't think a woman would have her "real" money in her pockets; and it dosen't stand out. I have a small container of lip balm in the 5th pocket of my jeans ( I almost ALWAYS wear jeans).; and the cell and keys are on clips; one on my jeans proper and one attached to a belt loop.

Off I go; hands free. Love it. I do this at clubs too; except I minimize the keys so they don't jangle. I have ADD; so I'm likely to forget a purse somewhere anyway. If the stuff is on me; I don't lose it as easily.

Somedays I think I shoulda been a guy.

ETA: I have the small purse/backpack thing also; for bigger cities and longer trips. I just felt like it looks too "young" for me now that I'm in my 30s. Just my ego and crap.

3. Depends
During the good weather, I used a backpack everyday because I was riding my bike a lot. Now that I find it too cold and wet to ride, I'm back to using a purse.

5. I love my small backpack....
Only use a purse for dress-up occasions. It frees my hands and doesn't keep sliding off my damn shoulder.

However, I've recently learned the very hard, and extemely expensive way that I don't want to leave my MP3 player in a hot car (I live in the deep south). I've also recently acquired a very hip little digital camera I want to carry around with me. Additionally, feck it, FECK IT, I've gone to bifocals, so I need a pocket for them too.

So I just ordered a bag to carry my gear... http://www.ebags.com/ellington_leather_goods/multi_tasker_jet_pack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=58233.

We'll see if it works!

10. I don't usually...
A few years ago, I went to find something in the Great Void I called a purse. I had rolls of film, tissues, makeup I never used, books, hairbrushes, marbles, matchbox cars, crayons, lint-encrusted change, lint-encrusted mints...I even had a pair of green socks in there. GAK! So now I just stick my driver's license in my right hip pocket and any currency I might have in one of my front pockets. I don't carry makeup or anything like that, so...

Plus, I find that it cuts down a lot on the, "Hey, could you stick this in your purse while I ________."

11. I have very rarely carried a purse or backpack.
I like to have my hands free. Money and cards go into my jeans pocket. Cell phone, keys and, sometimes, a camera go into my coat pocket. In the summer, I have a small "purse" on a long (but not too thin) strap that goes over a shoulder and across my chest.

I don't carry make-up or anything unnecessary.

I used to get really weird looks for not carrying a purse. And I can't tell you how many times I've been approached in a store by someone assuming that I work there because I don't have a purse.

12. I don't carry one, I drive one. Usually I use a backpack, or just carry...
a charge card, a metropass and a few bills, which all fit in a pocket.

I, too, like to have my hands free.

I'm amazed that so many women carry HUGE amounts of stuff where ever they go.
