As somebody who's played both, Chicago.
Less expensive, friendlier people, and no club in Chicago has ever ripped my band off, as opposed to 2 in New York City.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'm a sucker for any city with a decent public transit systm, and both have exceptional public transit. You can't go wrong either way, really.
