My dad may have lymphoma
He had the CT scan yesterday for a unexplained swelling under his chin, and the doctor told him that my dad may have lymphoma. I don't know what kind it is, but my father told me that the swelling started about 6 weeks ago. I've been reading up on it, and still confused.

Any survivors out there can help me through this?

I'm scared of losing him.

1. A woman in my office had lymphoma
After treatment she's been in remission for several years.

Sending out good vibes to you and your father!

2. A favorite teacher at the local elementary school
has had it twice. There was a ten-year gap between occurrences, and the last one was six years ago and she is fine. You have my best wishes for your dad. :pals:

3. I am an almost 20 year survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma
Depending upon the type of Lymphoma, most of them are very treatable.

6. I know they have made a lot of advances with the radiation since
I was treated. I do have some significant long term effects from scatter radation, and some "fibrosis" (scar tissue) of the internal organs that were in the radiation field. But I am alive, and every day is a gift.

4. My heart goes out to you and your Dad....
...be strong...I know that's easier said than done as I lost my Dad to cancer and it's still difficult to accept...take care of yourself and take care of him.

7. I'm sorry to hear the news.
This is a very scary time, when you're waiting and you don't know exactly what's going on.

But there is hope. I am a cancer survivor myself and I know many people who have survived lymphoma. One of my closest friends is currently in remission - he had *two* kinds at once, in fact. We have a great Cancer Support Group here on DU, if you want to stop by.

In the meantime, I'll be thinking of you and your family. I know how frightening this can be. Just remember you're not alone.
