What's the best way to put up a political yard sign? |
|
I live in a very windy place (Yuma) and although I don't have a yard there are several places where we are going to stake signs but I don't have any experience...
What do you recommend for windswept locations? and also, what's the best way to fasten the stakes to the sign?
Thanks in advance, expatriot

1. Well, if it were a CLARK sign, |
|
the area wouldn't be so 'windswept'! :D
In my front yard (horse pasture) I put my signs on fences - folded the two-sided signs over the top rail of the fence and stapled sides and bottoms. Admittedly, the ground is too frozen here to consider poking stakes into the ground without using a jackhammer first... Something tells me you don't have that problem!

I doubt the owners of those buildings are going to appreciate somebody nailgunning political signs to the side of their buildings.

Off the top of my head... Put the stake in a coffee can or big yogurt container. Fill with cement, and prop upright while it cures. Then bury the cement weight in the lawn, and when you're done just dig it up and take down the sign. If it's really windy make the stake shorter. A staple gun should attach the sign to the stakes well enough.

5. This is how I made my signs |
|
I bought 4ft wooden stakes and 1" by 6" plywood
my husband used small nails at angles to fasten the plywood to the stake .
I primed the plywood to hold up in the weather and used red paint for the words .
for a more wind swept area , 1" by 4" plywood might be better ..
Good luck and thanks for doing this :D
