Poll question: Do You Have A Valid Passport?

I read that only 5% of Americans have a passport (sort of shows you how interested we are in the rest of the world).

I wonder how DUers compare to the general populace.

I have rarely gone anywhere that required vaccinations. I am old enough to have gotten several smallpox vaccinations before this country finally stopped requiring them, around 1976 as I recall.

You can get it done at the post office. Bring your old passport.

I'm in AAA so I get free passport photos there...take them to the post office. It's pretty much done.

Huge improvement over the bad old days when it was an act of Congress practically to get my passport.

18. Renew by mail

I just did. I actually took the stuff into a passport renewal office at a library, because I didn't want to mail it in. The guy working there told me that I could just mail it, because that is all he was going to do, and sending it in yourself is 30 bucks cheaper. It only took 2 weeks from when I mailed it to when I got it.

If you are applying for the first time you still have to go in person though.

17. My husband and I use to live overseas

2 years in Japan. Our daughter was born there too so all 3 of us have valid passports.

For the record, holding an infant in a photo booth in a way that the parent can't be seen AND having the baby look straight foward for the camera is not easy. Just in case you were wondering. (The US Embassy didn't have someone there to take the passport photo so we had to do the booth instead)

doesn't mean that you aren't interested in the rest of the World or traveling :argh:. Sometimes you don't get to travel because life interfers. :-(

if you haven't taken them to Europe don't fret it too much. My family were aghast when we told them about the first trip and now they come to expect it from us.

Someone once told me that a kid's world is big enough they dont need to travel, I booked a trip to Ireland within days of hearing that one.

Both boys are in their teens, you see. The girls are a bit younger. We may not be able to take them traveling for a couple of years, but we got the traveling bug this summer and I'd like to think we'll be able to go at some point.

The Latin American currencies are still pretty shaky so the Americas still hold great deals.

Panama uses the U.S. dollar and it's a beautiful country with lots of wildlife and birds, very friendly, and I thought it was reasonably priced. For one example. I stayed in Gamboa where they have a luxury resort in the rain forest.

Always have a valid passport, current resume, and $100 cash to grab.

I was born in Greece, and could claim dual citizenship if I wanted. I looked into the process a while back, but I've forgotten all the information. I'd have to re-research it. It might be worthwhile though...

There are a number of places I would love to go see but without sufficient funds to do it, it's only a dream.

Fed Exed the application to San Francisco on a Wednesday afternoon , and by Friday morning my passport was in my hands in NC . I found a site on the internet. Excellent service !

My great desire to visit other countries is hampered by the fact that I have no means to do so. I want to go to Greece & its surrounding countries, to Germany to see if my surname really is as thick in the phonebooks there as "Smith" is here, and to Australia, New Zealand, and just about anywhere in South America.
