Poll question: Electric blanket?
I get freaked out by these things as I'm so forgetful.

If I bought one, would buying an electric circuit timer to turn the thing off automatically help?

1. I have one
it has an automatic shutoff after 12 hours. You can't get them all bunched up because they become a fire hazard. Two years with this one and no problems.

3. I cannot use an electric blanket. If I do, even on low, I wake up
about two hours later drenched in sweat because it gets too hot for me. That's ANY electric blanket I've ever tried. So I use extra blankets instead.

4. Buy a down comforter instead....
Very light weight and just warm enough. Will keep you toasty without frying you to a crisp!

7. I like the *last* option
:-)

I've never had an electric blanket, never will. I prefer to be a bit cool when I'm sleeping - being too warm wakes me up.

Don't y'all have something called indoor heating in the US? ;-)

8. I would happily lend you some of the hormones
that make me wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.

12. That is exactly what I was thinking
I already wake up several times nightly way too hot!

9. I had one
that went kaput on me after using it for one year, only slightly. Seriously, probably turned it on fewer than 20 times.

10. I LOVE my electric blanket
I don't think I could live without it. Unless of course I lived in a warm climate.

11. Oh yeah, I use
one. It's been mighty cold here the last couple of night. I keep my home thermostat quite low, but I want to be nice and toasty in bed!

13. My EB has a 10-hour timer built in
It's a pretty good one. I think my wife bought it at Overstock dot com. We have a cheaper one upstairs, and I didn't realize that it DIDN'T have a timer. I discovered it, turned on, three days after we had houseguests. They hadn't even used it, but their ten-year-old, being a ten-year-old, turned it on. It was folded, under the bed, and warm, for three days.

Just get one with a built-in timer.
