5. According to the History Channel, they left out
the piles of animal and human feces in the streets. There was no sanitation system in place at that time ...euwww. Yeah, I've been doing some research, this was based on a true story...which means we were like a third world country only 150 years ago....the gangs were no better, or worse, than the sunni and shi'as of Iraq. And there was our American civil war going on at that time too.

Sorry, I'm going to stick with my romantic comedies from now on :hi:

10. I love that book
You will appreciate George Washington even more, if that's possible. "Father of our Country" is no exaggeration - that guy pretty much ensured the outcome of the Revolutionary War single-handedly.

12. yup, pretty sticky and smelly but it's a really good book, i love his writing style
and growing up a little outside of Boston made the whole visualization of places and events all the better.

11. True story ...

Sorry to nitpick. It was based on a compilation of several mostly true stories that took place over a period of some 40 odd years. Some elements were completely invented, however, and the time compression could lead to false conclusions.

4. imdb mentioned Scorsese wanted to keep that shot in the film
even though it wasn't finished until after. Sort of a tribute to those who built the city, not destroyed it.

6. That was a great movie!
I kept wondering why I hadn't been exposed to any of that history......

And the fight scene where they were using swords and other nasty looking weapons.......:scared:

It was entirely too realistic!

Still, I enjoyed the sweep of history....

And you're right...we haven't changed much since then......

Just our weapons......

9. We watched it in my Social Problems class last year
It was a great movie, the only time I found Leo remotely appealing too, plus the soundtrack is awesome! :toast:
