7. I watched it when I was very young.

I believe in the mid to late 60's when it was in re-runs. I thought Lucas McCain was hot, or maybe it was the son that I liked. Anyway, he sure could shoot a rifle.

before his "acting" career. I was a kid at the time, and have no clue of whether he was a good ball player or not.

I do not remember any of the episodes, except one with a blind guy who almost killed the Rifleman, and another where the kid was splitting wood and Connors motivated him by threatening him with "beans for supper for the next month".

So what's Johnny doing now? After spending two years on the New York cocktail circuit singing in another man's band, Johnny formed his own 16-piece, Los Angeles based 1920's orchestra in 1990. The Johhny Crawford Dance Orchestra is now a fixture on the local swing-dancing scene re-energized by the film, Swingers. Now 55, he's forsaken acting to forge a career and a business around that era in American history. "It was such a wonderful time," says Johnny. "There was a quality in almost everything in those days - the clothes, the architecture, the furniture, the cars and especially the music."

The guests at the private party at Cicada in downtown Los Angeles earlier this year were all from Hollywood's A-list: Spielberg, Pfeiffer, Nichols, Hawn, Travolta, Katzenberg, Hanks. The center of attention for many, though, wasn't any of these celebs, but the band hired to entertain them: the Johnny Crawford Dance Orchestra.

"There were only about 50 people there, and they were all enjoying the band, and almost all were dancing," says Mr. Crawford, the ensemble's leader and vocalist, whose 16-piece orchestra performs American popular music from the 1920s and 30s in period style. "One fellow was standing off to the side watching for the longest time; it was Dustin Hoffman. He loved it. He said it reminded him of when he was a little boy and his parents took him to see Ted Lewis. Martin Short was a riot. He said, 'I wanna sing with Johnny Crawford!'"

This month's Shooting Times has an article on the Rifleman's rifle and the show. The article mentions that the opening of the show has the rifleman firing 11 rounds from a ten round weapon. Seem the 11 round was dubbed in to keep tempo with the music.
