edit: I kept expecting to see Thurston Howell III's wife on the sidelines with the headset. :P

8. I'm surprised at how crushed I am right now, on so many levels.
I wanted the city to win, I wanted my father to see his team win a Super Bowl (I don't know how many more he has to see...), this is the team I watched lose my whole life...

And Chicago fans really didn't have to start singing "Nananana, Goodbye," did they?

14. Not the same.
Chicago has has champion football, basketball, and baseball teams. New Orleans has only had the Saints, who didn't have a winning season for their first twenty years. They've won two playoff games ever, counting last week. New Orleans had the Jazz for five years, and they never had a winning season, until they moved to Utah. Now they have the Hornets, who aren't much better.

New Orleans always loses. Not just one of its teams, the whole damn city. It's hard to explain how that affects the city.

Then again, they make some mean cocktails. :)

17. AMEN! I am so fucking sick of hearing what Mike Ditka thinks about every single
thing! Who gives a flying fuck? The guy coached a really great team to a Super Bowl win over TWENTY YEARS AGO. Lots of coaches have done the same since then. In fact, lots of people have done lots of really amazing things since then; cured diseases, saved lives, overcome incredible adversity. Why the hell do I need to keep hearing what that right wing meathead thinks about anything?

I swear, I want the Bears to win the Super Bowl just so he can fade into oblivion where he should've gone a long time ago.

Except sweetness, of course.

It was kinda fun when they were the milquetoasts of the midway for a decade or so, but they still never had any class. Kinda like the Oakland Raiders of the NFC. Except I really like Gannon (Brown, Rice, and Rison) and the Snake.

(my family lives in the Chicago 'burbs......way back then, my mum told me about an incident where my brother was pulling up to a gas pump and a Mercedes zipped in and cut him off - so he jumped out of his car, William Perry got out of the Mercedes, my brother jumped back into his car so damn fast LOL.....:D

That same brother lived in an apartment complex right next door to a Bear - late one weekend night a couple of Bears came by hammering on the wrong door and nearly took my brother's door off the hinge - SORRY they said, we'll get that fixed, and they did send someone around promptly in the morning to fix it....my brother said OMG THOSE GUYS WERE AS BIG AS MACK TRUCKS. :D

I predicted that had the Bears won, local fans would celebrate by...eating a pork product of some sort. Any body have the lowdown?

And, yes, I did want the Saints to win, but the only reason I'm really upset about the Bears winning has to do with my job, where I watch news broadcasts, including the Chicago Fox affiliate's noon show. What assbags host that show! Especially the guy who looks like he's a runaway Frisch's Big Boy statue.

I have no problem with complaints about the refs. I feel the Eagles had some bad calls go against them, too, in their playoff game against the Saints. But probably, neither team would have won anyway. Sorry about your Saints, and hope the Eagles and Saints are there again next Jan. :hi:

66. I thought the refs did okay, aside from that one fumble
The Saints played poorly, and that often leads to penalties. The Bears were looser, more at ease. I saw an interview before the game where Sean Payton was asked if he thought lack of playoff experience hurt the Saints, and he said no, that it was just another game, and that the Saints wouldn't do anything different for this game. Every time I hear a coach (always a new coach) say that before a playoff game, that team loses. The games are different, with a different style of pressure, and the Saints succumbed to that pressure.

Without Reggie Bush's one big run, the Saints wouldn't have even come as close as they did. The Bears shut down the line, so Brees was on the run the whole game, and McAllister couldn't get through the line. The Saints defense played exceptionally well for most of the game, but by the end they couldn't overcome the fumbles and poor field position. The offense was just overmatched by the Bears defense.

And the Bears didn't have to hold because the Saints pass rush didn't apply as much pressure. The Saints O-line was being pushed around all day, so it's not surprising they started getting called for holding. The refs tend to let it go unless it begins to affect a play, and the Saints weren't applying enough pressure for it to matter.

They just got beat. The Bears were more ready to play, and they made the adjustments late that the Saints just weren't making. Payton has a bit to learn, and the team needs some gelling, and some fine tuning. Considering where they were under Haslett, though, Payton worked miracles.

That's my analysis. Now, let's watch Peyton Manning, native New Orleanean, slaughter some Bear. It won't be quite as nice as watching the Saints in the Super Bowl, but it will be better than watching the Patriots do it again.

to next October.

If the White Sox can do it...if the Bears can do it...so can dare I even *think* it? my Cubbies.

And just think of how deliriously happy I'll be if that happens...

Don't think of it as the Saints losing, think of it as paving the way and setting the precedent.

67. Hey RRR, my sister said the exact same thing to me Sunday night.
My reply was this: "If the Cubs ever win the World Series, you can be sure the Apocalypse won't be too far behind.."

I've loved the Chicago Cubs since the mid-60's. My mother (RIP) was a die-hard Cub fan on the South Side of Chicago all her life. When PK Wrigley still owned the Cubs, he used to have Ladies Day on Fridays when the Cubs were playing at home. Mom used to take my brother Tom (who for some unknown reason was a Yankees fan) and myself up to Wrigley Field on the El whenever a "good" National League team was in town playing the Cubs. I got to see some of the greatest baseball players,i.e, Don Drysdale, Sandy Koufax, Willie Mays, Henry Aaron, Bob Gibson, Curt Flood, Lou Brock, Roberto Clemente, Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, etc live and in person all for next to nothing. If I remember correctly, you could get box seats behind the Cubs dugout for about $3.50-$4.00 a game.

I got my love of baseball from my mom. She kept a scorecard better than some sportwriters could. However she never saw her beloved Cubs win a World Series and after October 2003, I became firmly convinced I never will either.

However if the impossible happens during the my lifetime and the Cubs do win the World Series, I'll die a happy death. Nothing in sports would make me happier.

71. Oh, God...
I don't even like to *think* about 2003. Talk about heartbreak. Since then, I've tried to stay optimistic but I have to admit it's more 'fatalistic' than 'optimistic' most of the time. It's a defense mechanism. A gal can only take so much, yknow.

I'll never give up on 'em, though. I don't know if it'll happen this year, but next year...how poetic would that be? 2008 and all...

*sigh*

74. I'll need more than a few days...

To my knowledge, this fuckmook was not even asked to leave the stadium, let alone made to surrender his season tickets (as happened to the Giants fans caught on camera throwing snowballs at the Chargers a few years back). Ye gods. To make matters worse, having grown up in Baltimore, I hate the Dolts, too, just on general principles.

Looks like Rabrrrrrr was right...

75. First of all KamaAina, how do you know this "fuckmook" even has
season's tickets to the Bears games?

I agree that the sign and the idiot that brought it into Soldier Field on Sunday should have been removed from the premises. However, I watched the entire game on Fox on Sunday and not once during the game was this unfortunate sign even shown on their broadcast, nor was it shown on any of the local Chicago stations.

Secondly, I'm getting a little tired of all this finger pointing on DU from people who obviously can't get over the fact that the Bears beat the Saints on Sunday.

Bottom line, the better team won. Flame away at one asshole that showed up at Soldier Field with a completely disgusting, obviously home-made sign.

But to keep ragging on an entire city just because of the idiotic action of one so-called Bears fan is just too f'ing much. They're are idiots/morans everywhere.

76. I just figured anyone who got playoff tickets had to have had season tickets first
as is normally the case with, say, the Giants.

You may have a point. Mr. Mook, as the NY Times would call him, most likely got his through a scalper or on eBay or some such.

For further discussion, I refer you to this stalwart NOLA blogger, and new acquaintance:

77. That's not true
My cousin got tix for Sunday's game and he is definitely not a seasons ticket holder. All it takes is money (and lots of it) plus persistence. Living in the city helps. ;-)

78. KamaAina,
See this thread I started at 3:17 am Sunday morning here on DU regarding the totally classless, disgusting column that John Kass wrote for Sunday's Chicago Tribune:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=215x45118

It only got 3 replies. Also I have been reading the Bears message board this afternoon regarding the incident with that disgusting sign. One poster, who was at the Seattle game, the previous week said the asshat that made the poster was the same guy he had problems with prior to the Seattle game. Apparently the asshat was trying to sell home-made t-shirts that said "Favre S*cks" for $50.00 a pop and every other word out of his mouth was an obscenity.

Like I said I have no idea if this asshat has season's tickets, but if anyone who is a season ticket holder with the Bears and knows who this guy is, his actions not only for Sunday's game but for the previous game should be reported.

This asshat and others of his ilk are not real fans of the Chicago Bears. I'd bet dollars to donuts he's probably a Freeper and a Dittohead. In fact if you look at him closely he even resembles Rush Limpballs.

79. You posted at 3:17 am Sunday morning?!
No wonder there were only three replies!

In all fairness, asshats can be found in the camps of every team. Exhibit A: Moran Man himself.

I see you're also a Cubbies fan (as, it happens, are many New Orleanians, for some reason), so I'm sure you'll appreciate that. :-)

Back to the NFL, remember last year's Saints "home" opener at Giants Stadium? Here's how NY/NJ-area fuckmooks responded:

http://www.nola.com/forums/vieuxcarre/index.ssf?artid=5210

Reality slapped me in the face when I became a victim of this abuse. Taunted by Giants fans spitting venom like "the people of New Orleans are stupid", "you deserved what you got", "hope you know how to swim", along with attacks that are far too vulgar for you to print.

Maybe we could move all these subhumans sompelace like Gitmo and give 'em an expansion team, the Gitmo Fuckmooks. :-)
