Decision 2007: Bears or Colts?
I'm a Indianapolis resident (if you couldn't tell by my screenname) and I have a big decision to make do I root for the home team the colts or do I root for the the team I've been following since a kid da bears for the superbowl.

The Colts - had some bad years (I.E. Eric Dickerson era & Jeff George era) but they have grown on me since the middle 90's.

Da Bears - first real exposer to football was during their last superbowl, heck I was even named after a bear player.

In either case it's my dream superbowl.

Da Bears, without a doubt. I'm sorry I doubted them for even a minute before Sunday's game. Peyton Manning is adorable, but he's gonna eat grass.

you said you were named for one of them.

My nephew already has his NFC champs hat -- his friend owns a sports store and he picked it up last night. Is that cool or what?

7. I was for the Colts basically because of Peyton Manning
Well, in a way actually, because of Archie. AM was at Ole Miss when I was in college at Millsaps in Jackson MS abd I really got sick of hearing about him. I rally hated ole Miss. But after he finished up with he Saints and his kids were ready to go to college, he got a lot of pressure from Ole Miss alumns to put them in Ole Miss, but he told them to go to hell (sort of) and his kid went to Tenn.
That was a big thing in my book, so I started reallly liking them.

HOWEVER, last night the first thing that the owner of the of the Colts did upon accepting the trophy was to "give all the glory to the Lord." :puke: and then the coach did the same :puke::puke: That reaally turned me off. Like the Lord really had it in for the Patriots?

Anyway, in the words of Barack Obama (and I am not yet an Obama supporter) I am ready for the Bears to go all the way, baby!!!

16. yeah, that pissed me off, too
People have believed in thousands of gods over the course of human history, and there's scant evidence that any of those gods exist, let alone meddle in the outcome of American football games.

The Colts owner is making a lot of money off the athletic skills of the Colts players, and instead of giving them credit, he gives it to a god. How ungrateful.

44. I'll cut the Colts owner Irsay a little slack because
I've met Jim Irsay a few times from working at a former employer. I don't know the guy personally by any means, but he was very respectful toward my coworkers and myself when a lot of rich and famous people (or fake posers) treated us like peseants or servants.

12. I like Peyton Manning, I like Tony Dungee, but
I live in an NFC town...gotta root for the NFC team.

A funny aside...my brother and I have wagered on the Superbowl every year for 30 years now. It's the only sports betting I've ever done in my life. He's an AFC fan (lives in Baltimore) while I'm an NFC type, so there's never any doubt how the betting will go. However, since he's a Baltimorian, he absolutely loaths the Colts* which of course means he will be a Bears fan on the 4th. Looks like there will be no wager this year. Oh well, it'll save one of us a dollar.

*The folks in Baltimore hate the Colts because of their departure in the early 80s. Strangely, they don't see the irony of the circumstances under which they acquired their present team.

28. you could still wager, and give the proceeds (whether the bears win or lose)
to some kids for ice cream. Pity to see the wagering streak come to a close ... no rule that you cannot both pull for the same team, i suppose.

35. That is a fantastic idea! It will, however require a change to the wager
I'm rather embarrassed to admit it, but the customary amount of the wager is $1.00 Wouldn't buy a lot of ice cream. However, an increase for charitable purposes is a great idea.

50. I shoulda guessed Gale Sayers.
I respect your decision to root for the Bears. I came to Indiana the same year the Colts did and have been a fan since they've been here.

Lots of Grossman fans down here in Bloomington of course, where he is from and played HS ball. I figure he has plenty of years left to get back to and win a Super Bowl after the Colts dismantle his team.

Sorry, but that's being a sports fan. You can't just abandon your team, no matter the circumstances (boycotting, however, is allowed if said team deserves it. See NHL's Bruins and Blackhawks for examples.)

At least Virgina McCaskey didn't invoke God or anything during her acceptance speech.

That was the best part of yesterday. Seeing that 80 something year old woman accepting the trophy named after her father in the snow at Soldier Field.

Doesn't get much better than that!!!

I've never liked him. I'm sad that the Colts won. Of course, I also don't like that the Colts just packed up and moved a storied NFL franchise out of Baltimore in the middle of the night in unmarked vans, either.

Teach Chicago fans that this "Da Bears" thing is not funny, cool, clever, or whatever. It's one of the stupidest things I've heard of in sports.

I grew up in Baltimore in the late '60s and early '70s. I was in New Orleans the night of the Eagles playoff game.

Conclusion:

THEY BOTH SUCK BIG SLIMY GREEN ROCKS.

I'm hoping to get rip-roaring drunk and catch a "Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency" marathon on the We channel, or something equally enlightening. :puke:

Edited on Mon Jan-22-07 06:26 PM by KamaAina

without whom the phrase "Indianapolis Colts" :puke: would be as meaningless as it is ridiculous.

Under most circumstances, I'd be an ABC guy (Anyone But Colts) -- but on the other side of the ball, we have the goons who ran up the score against America's New Team, much like certain low-rent college coaches do. :puke:

What to do? What to do?

To hell with the Janice Dickerson marathon. I'm gonna get loaded on Night Train and rent a couple of Porky's movies and possibly "Weekend at Bernie's".

edit: You're waiting for a prediction, aren't you? Here goes: Castro will die shortly before the game, and a counter-revolution will engulf Miami, the only bright spot being the ensuing cancellation of the game. :P

I believe this one will be a great game. I would have to say that the Colts come from behind win was one of my all time fave games...being a Colt fan from before the time of the Broadway Joe debacle made this win all the sweeter. Good luck to both teams though, Da Bears got another monster team again so this game is up for grabs imho.

...if I were the Bears, I'd do what Parcels did to the Bills in that Super Bowl. I'd run, run, and run.

Of course, if I were Dungy, I'd put as many points on the board as possible. That would bury the Bears. But if the Bears run, it eats up the clock, and keeps Peyton off the field.
