I have to go to court tonight to get TeenMidlo's official license.
Isn't that a bit weird? The 'court' is actually held in one of the high school auditoriums and they have it once a month. A judge kind of lectures the kids on safe driving, etc., and then they turn in their learner's permits and get their actual licenses.

I thought it was a bit strange because when I got mine, I just had to go to DMV and turn over the paper that said I passed the test and voila, one license coming up.

It's actually considered court. No phones, no talking and you can't be late. They shut the doors at 7PM and if you aren't inside, you have to wait until the next month.

Does anyone else think this is weird? Or is this how things are done now?

4. its weird but i kind of like it. giving a teen a license is trusting them with their lives and
the lives of others. its kinda cool to do it in a somber fashion.

just my feelings.

5. I agree. I like the idea that they are taking a serious tone with it
considering that most of them have their own cars and drive all over Hell's half acre all the damned time.

I'll tell you what, though. If I hadn't known it was coming, I would have dropped dead when the letter from the Juvenile Justice Office arrived addressed to her.

8. it's so different than when I was a teen
but that's probably a good thing. I don't think that's the case here in PA, but then, my kid is about 5 years (shudder) from driving anyway. Kids here close to the city don't seem in such a big hurry to drive, and that's probably good as well.
