here it is:

I thought maybe my paper printed it without the caption, so went online to look, and no, it has no caption.

6. hm, dunno, Prof. Burden says that painting has been dead for years...
that a painting is but the residue of the painting process http://www.gagosian.com/artists/chris-burden maybe 'comics' are to follow shortly

8. Could it be that the artist is painting so slowly
that the brush got stuck to the canvas? That's the only thing I can figure out. It looks like he's shaking his arm as if trying to unstick the brush.

But I have no idea why that would be funny.

Marmaduke is almost always too difficult for me; it's frustrating to know that there's subtle wit flying just barely above my stretched fingers. I was especially flummoxed by the one with the men from the electric company, but it's sad to think that the poor little poodle will probably be crushed by Marmaduke's during his clumsy attempts at mating. Thanks for the help, but it's too bad he doesn't explain every strip. Well, I'll take what I can. Now if only there was a similar site for "Heathcliff" or "Nancy."

Correction: Having looked through the archives, is appears that this gentleman does indeed analyze every weekday strip; I may just have to wait a while. Hooray! I wish, however, that he would also cover the Sunday strips, those are the toughest nuts for me to crack. He stated his reasons, I have to respect his wishes.

10. no idea. it's about as unfunny as the political cartoons on the onion.
I don't get those - are they supposed to be not funny? As in, since the rest of the Onion is hilarious, did someone get the bright idea to pull some post-modern conceptual prank and have the least-funny cartoon ever (I mean, it's even worse than mallard fillmore)?

13. I think the answer to that one is yes.
It seems to be less so now, but long ago I think The Onion was conceived as a parody of a right-wing newspaper. The founder, T. Herman Zweibel, was a loonytune in the mold of Mr. Burns, and his opinion columns made his crazy politics plain. I think that's what they're getting at with thos political cartoons.

11. Perhaps he's painting an earthquake
Trembling canvas... seismic thingie.

That's my best guess for now.

20. No. Not DURING an earthquake
Look at the pic. The only thing moving is the canvas and brush. It's a painting OF an earthquake. Not painted DURING one.

15. there is a simple four step process to understanding this cartoon
first: get a graduate education in Western European Art Theory from the midieval period to today.
second: get a graduate education in Eastern Philosphy, perferably focusing on the Sufi Mystics of the 12th century.
third: read the collected works of Thucydides in the original greek.
fourth: realize that Hermann is a stupid comic and never makes any sense whatsoever.

19. Perhaps you should substitute any Herman caption and leave it at that...
I believe this one will work fine:

"If you're Santa Claus, who was that dummy in the glasses who left me all that junk last year?"

Funnier than ever. Herman. Heh.

21. Pop artists can paint a line on a falling canvas and someone will buy it?
either that or he painted so slowly that the brush dried to the canvas.

23. I think the second is the best idea so far - someone else said it above as well.
That's all I can figure - he was painting so slowly the brush stuck to the canvas.

It's still not funny, though.

22. Perhaps the caption would have been "Richter Painting"
Maybe the artist is Richter, and he's a one-trick pony
