So I went to a birthday party of my girlfriend's mother's husband last week
And being very cognizant of the need to come off like a charming young man in that context, I chatted extensively with one of the mother's coworkers. Well, now I hear that she raved about me at work after the party, but I've also learned that the mother hates this coworker's guts.

Oh well. :dunce:

Also apparently after we left one of the cousins on the husband's side got drunk, danced on the table and asked loudly if everyone wanted to go to a strip club afterwards as she needed a pole to dance properly. All the while this girl's mother was frantically asking for the bar to be closed... a shame we missed it.

1. I always miss the good parts of the parties, too
The last work wedding I went to, I left before one of my fellow employees was carted off in an ambulance for alcohol poisoning. It was touching, really - the ambulance pulled out and then the limo pulled out behind it with the happy couple. In one of the photos, you can see the rear doors of the ambulance.

The wedding before that, I left just prior to the groom getting into a fistfight with the bartender. I was sorry I missed that as well.

2. Last wedding reception I went to, my grandfather and great uncle got blasted
Edited on Mon Jan-22-07 12:03 PM by jpgray
Not intentionally--it's just that the bride and groom took their sweet time getting there, and the two dapper old gents knew not the difference in their respective tolerances from the old days. The looks on the faces of my grandma and great aunt were my happiest memories from that occasion.

3. when I go to weddings someone always falls down and breaks
something.

maybe I should only go to Jewish weddings from now on where all that gets broken is a wine glass.

4. At least it wasn't your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
I dunno. :freak:

5. If there's a more elegant way to say the above
I'd like to hear it. It does make us absolutely nothing, however. :D "Stepfather" isn't used in the family, so I hide from the word and instead create my own unique semantic fog.

6. I have to say I've never seen a fight
nor have I seen any Wedding Crashers- like seductions or strip teases for that matter.

I must go to very controlled weddings.

9. What, no Irish in the family?
The last family wedding I went to, the groomsmen were doing shots of Jagermeister at the bar (it was a very fancy country club, and the members were horrified) and someone ended up slow-dancing with a chair.

Also, people usually end up singing and/or crying...

11. Had a crasher at my daughter's wedding.
It was a formal wedding and reception.
I mean wedding party in tuxes and guests wore suits/cocktail dresses, that sort of thing.
Big do. Dinner, drinks, and a live band.
Hey, she's our only one.

I see a guy and his date come walking in. He's in golf shirt and windbreaker.
Throws his jacket over somebody's chair and proceeds to the dance floor.
OK, I don't mind if he dances to my music, but it's also open bar on my nickel and I know he and date are gonna be drinking my whiskey next.

I walked up and took his arm.
"Sorry, bub. Private party."
"Oh, SORRRYY. Didn't mean to INTRUDE. EXCUSE ME!"
Like hell you didn't. Sarcastic bastard.

Took his date and walked just outside the door and started dancing again. Smirked at me.
Screw that. Now I'm pissed.
I found the Banquet Boss (aka The Bouncer) and explained what had just taken place.
He spoke quietly to the couple and pfftt they were gone.

Funny thing is, if the guy had been wearing a suit I'd never have known.
I didn't know 3/4 of the guests.
