3. If you right click (control click) on the Widget icon..

You get a option to "Show Package Contents." With that you can browse or modify a Widget.. The same thing applies to normal applications. I used to always edit the nib to make mail.app aqua instead of brushed metal. But, you do need to install the Developers Tools to take advantage of that function.
