Does anybody else have preteen headbangers?
I have a 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son. I keep my car radio on the 80's station, and when the kids are in the car, they generally just listen quietly. However, as soon as something by Twisted Sister or Quiet Riot comes on, they both say enthusiastically "I LIKE this song!". Of course, I do too, but is this genetic, or what?

1. I have three of them critters
a 12 yr boy 8 yr boy and 3 yr girl and they love all kinds of music. My 12 yr old does enjoy a lot of the head-banger stuff but he can not listen to it while he is at my dad's and he is not happy about it. So I am taking him a head set am/fm walkman today so my dad can't gripe at him for listening to it any more. I think they should be able to decide on their own what they want to listen to.

2. That's too funny
but hey, take a listen to the pure shit that passes for modern music or rock these days.

Play them some new Jane's Addiction while you're at it :7

3. My four year old is a riot when the heavy metal stuff comes on...
and I was never into heavy metal much. He bounces and bops along. Cracks us up.

13 year old daughter is more into the 80's retro music (like her momma) The Dream Academy, Thompson Twins, that sort of thing.

4. My older daughter
has pretty good taste--Guster, David Grey, Sarah Brightman, Tori Amos, Jonatha Brooke. My younger one however is into rap. Yikes! Where did I go wrong?!?!

5. Rap, Heavy Metal ... I have a theory
I think the emphasis on drums & rhythm massages some primal part of our brains (at least for some of us). I listen to some of this stuff and feel euphoric.

6. I had a student who was a doctor...
in his 80s...His thinking was similar, but he suggested it was the volume, not the rhythm, that shut down the thinking centers of the brain.
