Pussy Willows, should they be out now?
My Pussy Willow tree is blooming with lots of furry little blooms, (Is that what they are called-"blooms"?) The tree started doing this about a week and a half ago in mid January while we had 9 inches of snow on the ground. Is it me or is this a bit early for Pussy Willows? Is this a sign of global warming?

ps: I am having severe problems with my computer...being kicked offline at random intervals so please forgive me if it takes a bit to get back to any replies to my query here.

1. Very early in the season. Have you pruned the blossoms?

2. No...should I?
The tree is old and likely not long for this world. The winter's fierce windstorm blew done much of the tree but a little remains and it IS blooming. I have seen Pussy Willow blooms on another local tree as well. This seems quite odd to me as I expect such blooming should occur in early spring as opposed to mid winter. On a related note blackberry's are now pick-able around here a solid month earlier than they should be as well. Normally blackberries are late summer, yet I am finding them easily in mid summer! I am wondering if these are signs of global warming.

8. If you want to keep the blossoms.
Cut them when they have the fuzzy bud and DO NOT put them in water. They make a nice arrangement.

4. I fear the copycat too but my question needed asking.
I have a pet theory that the phases of natural plant rhythems are being altered by global warming. If this is the case then I want to send some of my pussy willow blossems to those doubting Thompsons!
