What was your favorite "slow dance" song when you were in high school?
For me it was "Lights" by Journey. When we had school dances this was the big favorite.

I heard it on the radio this morning when I was taking my kids to school, and it brought back a flood of happy memories (btw, I went to high school 1979 - 1983).

Early high school when I still went to dances. Mighta had my first kiss to that classic slow jam.

That song is dreamy. *sigh*

33. I wish I didn't lose the recording I made when I was 16 at an amusement park.
I sang "Material 'Boy'" and "Crazy For You." My voice changed over what seemed like the course of 10 years. This tape was a notorious reminder of that.

It was the song played for a young woman who was a friend of the family. She was murdered at a rather young age (I will spare you the details, as they are very gruesome). This was over 20 years ago, and they have NEVER found who did this to her.

The fact that I don't remember much of the Sr. Prom has more to do with we left it pretty early

than with how much alcohol we consumed

but either way, the song is still one that draws me back to a time when things were much different, and well, I wouldn't go back there if ya paid me to do it all over either!

39. Every time I hear that song
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 01:34 PM by MorningGlow
I think of the skit on The Tracy Ullman Show where she and Kelsey Grammar sang it as a duet--he as a lonely millionaire, and she as his ugly (REALLY ugly) Mexican maid.

A shame that I laugh every time, really, because it is such a pretty song. But it was a great sketch!

On edit: I got no high school slow-dance song. I was a shy geek at an all-girls Catholic school. The guys from our brother school never even knew I existed. But then again, I don't think I cared, considering the guys who went to our brother school!

34. Not HS, but college: "Just Once"
Hated the songs popular when I was in HS - "Stairway to Heaven" and "Color My World"

But the guy I had a crush on in college always found me for this one, and it always overcame my vows to never hook up with him again:

--------------------------------------------------
Just Once by JAMES INGRAM

I did my best
But I guess my best wasn't good enough
Cause here we are
Back where we were before
Seems nothin' ever changes
We're back to being strangers
Wondering if we ought to stay
Or head on out the door

Just once...

Can't we figure out what we keep doin' wrong
Why we never last for very long
What are we doin' wrong

Just once...

Can't we find a way to finally make it right
To make the magic last for more than just one night
If we could just get to it
I know we could break through it
(Hmm hmmmm)

I gave my all
But I think my all may have been too much
Cause Lord knows we're not gettin' anywhere
Seems we're always blowin'
Whatever we've got goin'
And it seems at times with all we've got
We haven't got a prayer

Just once...

Can't we figure out what we keep doin' wrong
Why the good times never last for long
Where are we goin' wrong

Just once...

Can't we find a way to finally make it right
To make the magic last for more than just one night
I know we could break through it
If we could just get to it

(Bridge)
Just once
I want to understand.....
Why it always comes back to goodbye
Why
Can't we get ourselves in hand
And admit to one another
We're no good without each other
Take the best and make it better
Find a way to stay together

Just once.....

Can't we find a way to finally make it right (Whoa)
Make the magic last for more than just one night
I know we could break through it
If we could just get to it

Just Once.....

Whoa oh, we can get to it

Just Once.....

Arranged by Quincy Jones.

55. "Reasons" by Earth, Wind and Fire...
was the slow dance song when I was in freshman/sophmore years. When the band (yes, BAND) would play the opening notes, you could hear the girls all around the auditorium heave a hugh sigh. :) There was nothing worse than having to sit out "Reasons" 'cause a fella didn't ask you to dance.

57. THIS one tops the list...
I've been looking for a good link. I found one and Philip Bailey can still hit those notes, but it was recent. God, I miss my "Gratitude" album.

*sigh*

64. Ti Amo by Umberto Tozzi
Laura Branigan eventually covered it, but it was the original version - in both Italian and English - that we heard most of.

I went to a Catholic high school with a lot of Italians...

102. "I Only have Eyes for You" - Art Garfunkel

I Only Have Eyes For You (Budin/Warren)

My love must be a kind of blind love. I can't see anyone but you.
Are the stars out tonight? I don't know if it's cloudy or bright. I only have eyes for you, dear.

The moon may be high, but I can't see a thing in the sky. Cause I only have eyes for you.

I don't know if we're in a garden or on a crowded avenue.
You are here, so am I. Maybe millions of people go by.
But they all disappear from view and I only have eyes for you.
