the ethics of kicking
if you have a badly failing post that is rapidly moving downwards, how many kicks can you do before crossing the line. Exactly what amount of kicks is it ethical to use to save a thread in need?

13. HA!
 arwalden... :D

PS. Another good way to get an innocuous kick is to politely respond to everyone who responds...usually with a leading question that begs an answer.

Right, Allen? ;-)

16. Well I would not know about that, not being Allen or anything
like that, but what would you say to someone who answers a question to someone else, just to demonstrate how to kick a thread without hurting your toes?

5. 3, normally.
There are times when a post may be so buried by the time the 'evening crowd' (e.g.) comes online that they might not see it unless it were kicked, yet would probably enjoy it if it were. It's sort of situational, as arwaldewn says. :)

12. I usually kick only once or twice...
...and I wait to reply to people until it's near the bottom, if it's an endangered thread.

14. I think it depends both on the forum and on the topic.
If it's a vanity post I've put in the Lounge, yeah, 3's the maximum and that's kind of pushing it.

If it's in GD, and it's an important topic that's being anchored by a poor signal to noise ratio, I'll kick it as often as seems judicious. I might even round up some others who might be interested to kick it a few times, too.

15. pm one of your buds and have them kick it
Or have them type in some irrelevant bullshit information for an ipso facto kick.

Nobody will be able to distinguish that from 90% of what is on DU these days.

18. NO kicking and NO biting.
And NO hitting girls or your little brother.
Didn't your mama tell you that?
