I broke Firefox.

It wouldn't open (a little box kept popped up saying it was already in use, and to close it. :wtf:), I finally got it to reload, but now I lost all of my bookmarks, and extensions. Sucky. ;(

1. Dude!
Just restart when that stuff happens. There's no other way to fix it without screwing it up.

16. It happened to me all the time on my old computer...
Here's a trick: Make two different profiles for Firefox. Make it to where you have to sign each time. Then when one is running the other one will be available.

13. I use this..
http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/browsersync/

Even if I get a new computer things in Firefox sync automagically. It has saved a ton of time. And it doesn't sync extensions. But that is the easiest part of getting things back to normal.

And yes, some people might not be happy with google having that much info. From the FAQ:

What's the point of encrypting my information?

By encrypting your information, it will be transmitted to and stored on Google's servers in a format that is nearly impossible to interpret without the PIN. That means that without the PIN, no one, not even Google, will be able to read your data. Therefore, it's important to choose a good PIN (at least 8 characters including both numbers and letters) that's hard to guess and to keep your PIN safe. Note that encrypting all of your browser settings may affect the performance of Google Browser Sync and Firefox.

17. You had a "runaway" process ...

When/if that happens again, kill it with the task manager, and it'll be fine.

Not knowing how you managed to get it working again, I can't be certain, but what you most likely did ended up generating a new profile, which is why your bookmarks "disappeared." They may still be there.

If you run Windows XP, the profiles are located:

Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

This is a "hidden" directory, so if you haven't already, you'll have to tell Windows to let you see them.

Anyway, if you can get in there, check to see if more than one profile exists. The profiles are separated into directories named in ways that look like gibberish. If more than one is there, one of them is probably your current profile, another your old one. The bookmarks file is in there, and you can move the "old" file into the "new" profile to replace the new bookmarks file, thus retrieving your old bookmarks.

30. Yes, it happened to me
and a few others here. Firefox LOVES to forget all your bookmarks, it pisses me off. The bookmark manager in FF 2.0 fucking blows.

You have to CTRL-ALT-DELETE to bring up the task manager, then select Processes, highlight it with a left click, then right-click and 'end processs' it.

I really hate this part of it, but it's still better then IE7

32. For God's sake, get the Foxmarks extension
It will automatically synchronize your bookmarks over multiple computers. Set it and forget it. I have three computers all sharing the same bookmark set, two Windoze, one Linux.
