5. It's an upper endoscopy, or EGD.

Like the colonoscopy it is a precedure during which an endoscope is inserted through the mouth into the esophagus, through it into the stomach, and from the stomach into the duodenum. The doctor looks for signs of abnormalities, may take cell samples to test for cancer or dysplasia, and in some cases the esophageal opening will be stretched if necessary (scarring, i.e. may cause it to become narrow & swallowing is impaired).

I had a friend who developed the precancer and it is time for him to get himself rechecked.
