Poll question: Smokers, help me with this survey.
I present Stop Smoking programs in, I think, a unique way. I'm doing some research and need your help. Pick the comment that is most like you.

1. Other:
I smoke, enjoy it, but am approaching the point where I think I think I should quit.

I have a friend who smokes 1, maybe two cigs per day. One after work, and sometimes one after dinner. (An Andy Griffith smoker, I call her). If I could manage my habit like that, I think I'd be happy.

2. I voted for this one
I tried less than five times and quit. (More than a year.)

But, there was no option for: I smoke, and I love it, but I know I need to quit, and have quit numerous times, most lasting into multiple months of being smoke free.

I was a couple weeks smoke free at the start of the year, but the ice storm that hit SW Missouri about ten days ago, broke me out of it, and I've been smoking since the 15th to today...I don't plan on quitting until this upcoming monday.

My longest stretch of being smoke free, 10 months...most of my quitting periods were 6 month stretches....

3. That's very much my profile

If I have to go without for long periods (flight to New Zealand, all-day meeting, stay at a Westin hotel, etc.) then I'll wear a nicotine patch. They work very well for me, and I quit for a six month stretch without any problems using them.

It irritates me that any sort of nicotine replacement product is orders of magnitude more expensive than smoking. If the tobacco settlement money were used to subsidize nicotine replacement products (if indeed the production cost is that high), that would be a good deal.

I do enjoy smoking, and doubt that I would ever be "smoke free" in the sense of never, ever lighting up over a drink or after a particularly good meal.

I had been a chipper for a long time (maybe five cigarettes a week for three years) before becoming a hard core smoker.

The other factor is that my wife doesn't have any interest at all in quitting, so that would make it particularly tough for me to quit.

If I could do it, I would prefer to smoke very minimally...I know I will never be totally smoke free, nor is it my desire to be totally smoke free either. I see no harm in going a few weeks, and then having a cigarette while having a few drinks...but where I fall off..is that one cig, turns into two, then a pack, etc etc....

I've been able to do that often, go a few weeks, smoke a cig...than go 3 months smoke free, and then smoke another cig/pipe tobaccoo...and so on. But, I do fall off hard sometimes...my give a damn just breaks.

But, I've been doing a lot better...I remember the first few times I tried quitting, I wouldn't last 2hrs...before losing it, and buying a pack...now I almost stop on a dime, and quit, without issue...my main issue, is just "not picking it back up"...but again, I know I'm not quitting for good anyways...its a fine line I walk.

on edit:spelling

5. That would have been my answer too, except as an ex-smoker I didn't vote.
I enjoyed smoking, but I knew I needed to quit. It's been more than 8-1/2 years since I quit.
