When lifting weights,
heavier weights with fewer repetitions in multiple sessions per day?

or lighter weights with more repetitions in one session?

Which will result in a more quickly boosted metabolism?

Thanks!

1. When I trained, I did a combination of both on alternating days.

2. Depends on your goals
Body building or strength training. Both methods build muscle. Higher reps at lower weight adds more bulk in comparison to lower reps at higher weight.

7. Thanks for all so far!
My goal is not sweating at lower temperatures and not feeling so sick all the time. Eating helps, but I must do it fairly often. If I don't feel icky by not having eaten, I also tend to feel ill right after eating. Especially if any ice cream is involved. I know muscle atrophy has led to weakness and muscle pain, even some joint pain in my knees for carrying extra weight up top. I am now determined to be free of it and I am concentrating on my arms.

I just never expected this onset to feel as quick as it has.

And my blood sugar ratings STILL read normal so it can't be diabetes. :(

8. Are you lactose intolerant?
Do other dairy products bother you? Maybe you want to get some lactaid pills and take one before eating ice cream.
I know you've had some health problems. Have you talked to the doctor about your workout routine and what you limits should be?

9. Milk, when diluted with protein powder, has no adverse effects...
But milk on its own or as ice cream and I'll hack up phlegm. I'll try lactaid...

I know some limitations, but I've recently switched clinics and need to get an updated physical.

But I think most of it all is due to relative inactivity. Which is odd as my job requires a higher than average amount of walking (though it's no UPS...)

3. If what you're looking for is a boosted metabolism
then lighter weights with more repetitions is the way to go, because it's more aerobic. Heavier weights with fewer repetitions are for strength building, and a combination of both is the best for muscle building.

4. more muscle burns more fat
at a better rate...so build yer shit up a little bit and the rest will follow (that would be heavier weights with fewer reps)

6. My metabolism is already insane..
6' and 135 pounds. But I prefer less weight with more reps. I have gone with both methods in the past and I prefer more reps. When I went for weight I found that I really hated going to the weight room. I like going when I shoot for a lower weight and more reps.

, heaver weights fewer reps for strength, followed by plenty of rest with high protein. Looking to enter a competition, higher reps, you want to get the rest of the muscle groups in sync, so you don’t tear down the muscle that you just worked. Again plenty of protein, have to feed the muscle. I have saved the most important for last, use good form its rather easy to get into the habit of using poor form, trying to empress other people in the gym has tore a many rotator cuff.
