It's an occupational hazard. I was 23 when I started so it was more of a job requirement that I get wasted for entertainment. As I got older, I wouldn't have a beer until 11pm. My regulars commended me for my control and constitution.

4. It's not as glamorous as it seems. |
|
Especially when people expect you to be drunk.

6. I had a favorite bartender at my clubbing days hangout |
|
He was very crafty that way. Most of the lovely lads in attendance didn't know he was straight, much less sober.
I used to have him fix me weird drinks, then I'd walk around with said drinks and send anyone who asked about the drinks over to him. I was a good arrangement. :)

8. The bartender/"regular" relationship will always be a very special one. |

I used to refer to my brain as not only being a Rolodex, but a lock box all at the same time.
Just from what you said, we would have made an excellent team.

5. An attorney who shared space in our office had that kind of job |
|
He had a fridge with wine in it and a liquor rack with hard liquor in his office. When he arrived at about 8:30 in the morning he began boozing it up and it went on all day long until he left. He said he never drank even a drop at home or at parties but only drank in the office during work hours. He despised the clients and hated the legal system, but he was a very effective and aggressive lawyer, even though he was always plastered. I don't know how he did it.

when there were taps right there in the lunchroom. It was discontinued after the merger with Stroh's when a woman sued the company after her husband was killed while driving drunk.

I was a young pup in the Merchant Marine, we managed to stay pretty well lit for a good portion of each day.
