A conservative emailed me, and I replied that I am not interested in conservatives or anyone who voted for Bush. This was his response, to which I promptly closed the match. Enjoy.....

"It must be boring in your little world, where everyone is liberal and must believe as you do, or you can't get along with them. Doesn't that go against your entire philosophy? It seems kind of disingenuous to base your taste in Men to their political affiliation, or what you assume it is by reading the word conservative in a profile. I think Bush is a joke, and I didn't vote for him. I didn't vote for Kerry either, as he is nothing but a rich snob who couldn't care less about us commoners. You could have just not answered my email, and let it go at that, but you chose to pick out a word that describes my philosophy is matters such as crime, and people pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps, rather than relying on a pourous welfare system that does nothing but keep lazy people on their butts. I am for abortion, legalization of drugs, prostitution, and putting child molesters to death. How about you?"

That's what you get for the courtesy of a reply. I've never heard anybody bitch before getting a response even if it is negative. What a tool this guy is. I don't know if it's where I live (WI) or match.com in general but it seems to me the majority of men there are conservatives. I've ended up endorsing the "no conservatives, ever" policy for dating myself. I personally think politics is a good indicator because there seems to be a fundamental difference in the way we look at the world versus the way they look at the world.

just to weed out the morons. It's very important to me to date someone with similar views. On eharmony, they send matches to you, and 2 men closed the match immediately by chosing the prewritten reply that says something about family values not matching or something to that effect. I only lasted one month on that site, I just wanted to check it out. I talked to one conservative guy on the phone because he said that he regretted voting for Bush, but I found him dull and just couldn't do it.

I am pretty conservative in living my life, though my beliefs are progressive. Ergo-I got matched up with way too many right wingers. I didn't realize they don't allow gay matches. It makes sense-that's why all the conservative nutters go there. Good place to avoid!

Go to Democratic/liberal/social cause functions, activities that you enjoy, particularly the arts. Concerts, museums, gallery openings, opera (they put the words up in English now so you can read them), whatever. I have found that artists and musicians are very liberal politically and religiously. It's like it doesn't even come up. Right wingers tend to not have any imagination and therefore are not interested in the arts, performing or visual or any kind except possibly the dreaded bluebonnet or flag painting.

If you're religiously liberal, but not xtian, hit a Unitarian church or fellowship. They take anybody -- atheists, agnostics, pagans, secular humanists, the confused who admit it, etc.

Listen, guys, I've seen gay men pick one another up in the lobby during intermission at the opera or live theater. Why can't straight men go to these events and pick up a nice woman in the same way?

Get out of your "typical big-hearted but dumb American guy" conditioning that says that the arts are "gay," dress up nicely, and go to the opera, a dance performance, the symphony, a chamber music concert, a jazz concert, live theater, a gallery opening, or a literary event. If you don't understand it, approach an appealing woman for help in understanding it.

Who knows? You may even find that you LIKE the arts events that all "real men" are supposed to hate. Who the hell cares what "the guys" think if you find the woman of your dreams?
