I received some great news today....
Last spring, I returned to college after being away for roughly 15 years. And though I suffered from a little bit of anxiety at first, I decided I was going to be the student I never thought I could be in High School and get a 4.0 one term. Then after my 4.0, I decided to really try and get into the 4-year college I always wanted to go to when I was looking at colleges the first time. Well, I've maintained that 4.0 for the past 2 terms, and I just found out today that I've been accepted to that school. I am just so happy right now. It really feels good that my hard work is starting to pay off.

YAY!

5. The school is Willamette University.
It's a small private liberal arts college in Oregon. I plan on majoring in Rhetoric and Media Studies and minoring in Political Science. I would really like to be a political communications director.

9. Thank you...
I've pretty much given up on TV and a regular social life... I spend the majority of my time studying and writing papers. But I've learned so much...

19. Thanks...
I hope your words are true... I just completed an application for a scholarship yesterday that, should I win, would pay my tuition there until I graduate. The scholarship is a national one though, and though I've seen some financial and emotional hardships, there are plenty of people that are worse off than me who deserve to go to school.

23. don't think that way
until it is over. You deserve it as much as anyone else does, and it isn't about what you deserve, it's about what you fight for an win (like your GPA and admission) Go get it, without comprimising your morals.

And one bit of advice: Study whatever interests you, not whatever you think will help you become a policital communications director: this is your only chance to study something completely useless that you love, remain open to it.

northzax: who's undergraduate degrees in (East and North Central Asian) History and Geology, with a minor in Japanese are completely irrelevant to my career, but hey, when else can I spend a year studying the political structues of the Mongol occupation of China?)

30. Oh, I completely love politics...
sad.. but true. It kills me to stay on the sidelines... I'd love to be working for Al Gore right now, but I don't have the street cred yet.

26. Sweet!!!
My mom first attended college when she was 17, and although she was very bright, she partied way too much. Get this she failed...swimming of all things, even though she was an excellent swimmer. So she went back to school 18 years later, and graduated magna cume laude. I think we all tend to be better students as we age...I know I'm not as incurious as I used to be (however, I guess this rule doesn't apply to chimps). Your experience will be so much better at this point in your life, than it would have earlier!

Congrats!

31. Plus, you bring a wealth of real-world experience to the table...
and you aren't preoccupied with the cute guy sitting across the isle. I've been really surprised how much more focused I've become, and how different classes seem to compliment each other. It's been a very rewarding experience coming back to school.
