We keep saying we're becoming what always drove us both crazy: one of "those" couples. I promise we'll calm down soon. Patience.

9. Met my wife on match.com in 2002
Got the subscription to the service as literally my last attempt to find someone. I won't explain my whole backstory but let's just say I'd been emotionally devastated numerous times in the years previous and was ready to give up on romance (and life, for that matter). Couldn't find anyone worthwhile in the Vegas area (seems most of the ads were for club-hoppers who wanted a sugar daddy) and so I expanded the radius to 300 miles to include Phoenix and So. Cal. Lo and behold, she had placed her own ad the day after I placed mine and it was almost at the very top of the list for compatibility.

Within a week we knew we had something unlike any previous experience. After just over a month I arranged to take my first drive down to Tempe and when faced with the need to return to Vegas I almost said screw it and didn't. By the end of 2002 she had moved up here. We were married 11 months to the day after her reply to my first contact. Our 4th anniversary is this June 8th. :)

13. No, this was before the net got off the ground
I met my SO at a Unitarian church because I was looking for a nice non-believer type.

Who liked smart women and was musical and clever and told horrible jokes. And he's great at changing lightbulbs, figuring out circuit loads and all that stuff I would never think of (former engineer. Physicist/mathematician/musician/composer/audio & video engineer).

We've been together since 1994.

16. I met my husband in 5th grade.
Back then computers were known as Univac or IBM machines, and took up an entire floor of a building. And the internet didn't exist. I think Al Gore was still in grade school too!

24. Personalpossibilities.com
In very late 1998.

It began heating up in early 1999, he came down to visit that March, I went up to visit that summer, then again at Christmas.

He finally moved down here in May of 2000, and we were married July 2000. Best, most incredibly healthy relationship I've ever had. Texan men and I are like round pegs and square holes. Canadian men and I CLICK.

32. No but I wouldn't have if it weren't for the Internet
I met a guy on the Internet back in about '95 - purely by accident. My daughter was watching me surf, saw a dating site and talked me into posting an ad. So I did but when this guy replied, I explained I wasn't really looking for a boyfriend.

But he became a friend and kept telling me that if I ever decided to move to California (I lived in Vermont), I could stay at his place. Which I eventually did in '98.

Three years later, I met my SO, we've been together six years and I'm still close friends with the other guy.

Sometimes things just work. :)

36. I met a ton of women from online during the 90s
The first wave was a lot of women that were dishonest about their appearances. A few second dates, but nothing really worked out. And, yes I know men are just as bad, if not worse, when it comes to dishonesty online. And, I'm not that shallow where looks are my #1 priority - it's just that how can you trust somebody that is that dishonest before you even meet? (Pictures were not as easy to do before digital cameras became so ubiquitous.)

Then, I got married in '98 and divorced in '99 and hit the ground running as soon as my wife moved out... for some reason, I met a lot of very attractive and very intelligent women. A lot of nurses and school teachers, a few women in law school, a lot of gorgeous college women where I was actually pinching myself thinking why is this Goddess with me? (Where were these women when I was, you know, in college in the late 80s?) A few ended up being relationships that lasted a few months or a bit more.

37. My sister met her husband on AOL
She had a thing for the British chatrooms. They knew each other online for several years and she moved to the UK and married in 2001 (2 weeks before 9/11). He's a terrific guy and my sister adores him. I consider him more than family, he's more like a hostage. ;)
