Misheard lyrics - 6 year old version.
My daughter came home from school yesterday singing a song from her upcoming school show, over and over, really enjoying herself and proud of the new song she learned. It was about a lion.

"I'm a cat with pericle claws. Around here I make the laws." I can't remember the rest.

I listened a couple times and was like wtf? What kind of claws? "Are you sure that it's not terrible claws?"

Then she INSISTED over and over that today was a half day, all afternoon and evening last night. It was not on the calender and no notice from the school. While bringing her to school this morning she was still insisting that I don't forget to pick her up early because it was half day. So I called my wife to ask her to call the school, just to be sure.

The secretary answered "No ma'am. It's HAT day."

Something we suspected she misheard.

I guess it's time to clean the wax out of her ears again, silly little monkey. :)

1. My 5 yr. old cousin used to pledge allegiance to the United Snakes
of America...

In retrospect, prophetic!

2. I used to ask God to "Give us this day, our day-old bread"
Comes from growing up poor, I guess.

4. My daughter has done similar
She's almost 4 now, but last summer she was singing a song from a CD my aunt had gotten her for Christmas a few years ago - it was one of those CDs where they put in the child's name to personalize it.

But, the actual line in the song is, "you might go to Harvard, Princeton or Yale..."

Only, when she sang it, it came out, "you might go to Harvard, Princeton or Jail..."

Every parent's dream that their kid goes to jail!

5. When I was a kid
I thought the song said "I come from Alabama with a band-aid on my knee."

I think kids often hear things in a way that makes sense to them. :)

6. I sympathize with her...I have terrible hearing and "mishear" things all the time
Song lyrics are the worst for me. It always amazes me to read a lyric sheet and find out how badly screwed up I would have a song in my head.

7. Our youngest came home from Kindergarden one February day
to tell us all about a brave, inspirational American named "Dr. Martin Loser King".

She insisted she was correct until I GOOGLED up some proof.
