First dates- Where did you go?
On the occasion of my probably finally having something lined up with my favorite DU hottie, what was the last thing you did on a first date?

My last three first dates (and the last two were in high school- my social life is seriesly dull) were:

-a drive up to south lake tahoe for pizza

-Star Trek: First Contact

-a chick flick the guy picked out

You?

Was a great pickup hook: "Would you like to go sailing tommorow?" Who could say no?

We met each other via an online dating site so that seemed like a sensible place to have our first real life meeting. The dogs got along great with each other and we lived happily ever after

15. Okay then
Then, even though it was informal, I'd say our first "date" was going out to dinner in NJ after we left Thom's.

However, let em tell you this, LM: I bet that you discover what we did: you already know each other so well that you've jumped over all of the superficial dating stuff, and find yourself in a great place on the other side of all of that.

There is none of that type of weirdness.

And, trust me, you'll know IMMEDIATELY if your instincts and feelings were right -- those hundreds of hours of phone and IM conversations are a pretty good indicator.

13. Years ago, one of my first dates almost ended in flames.
My date and I met for coffee, but got on so well we decided to get dinner that night. We walked a couple blocks to a pizza place. Everything went fine until I shifted the elevated pizza pedestal so the wax paper hanging off the pan was directly over the table candle. Poof!

We saved the pizza and laughed about it a lot, but she only saw me twice more before telling me she had decided to get serious with someone else.

:(

23. Let's see, it's been twelve years since my first date
My wife and I had our first date while she was still living with her then boyfriend, we spent Easter together going to the Kennedy Center to see/Hear the Bach B Minor Mass in the afternoon, followed by a stroll around the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin resplendent in Cherry Blossoms, then dinner in Georgetown and then I took her back to her apartment. She later called her BF and told her that she had a wonderful day and, well, we ended up married a little more than two years after that.

Not Taco Bell, but the real thing. That's where I got my strong urge to eat tacos and other Mexican delicacies. Scrumptious. That was my first real official date, not the earlier attempts that were never called dates and not worth mentioning. It was a friend of mine who took me on my first official date just to show me what a real date was supposed to be. It's a long story, but I'll always remember this friend fondly for that. It was my first taste of some real dignity in this town.

39. There has to be liquor involved
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 01:29 PM by AngryAmish
No food. Most gals have issues with food so eating dinner is fraught with decisions they would rather not make on the first date.

Liquor lowers inhibitions and gets people talking. And no, I did not date non-drinkers because they are no fun.

Plus who wants to spring for someone's meal when you are just getting to know them? They may be climgy, crazy etc. and all those things are found out after a few drinks.

I made the most progress at quiet joints at off-peak hours. That way one does not have to shout to be heard (and my hearing is shot so I have trouble following conversations in loud places).

My dating time is over but that is my accumulated wisdom of too many years of dating.

My last first date: Saw Kurt Elling (sp?).

49. My first date, with my wife
was at some crappy wanna be country bar out in the middle of no where. I was totally out of it, not that I was drunk/on drugs, I was literally tired. I was an RA for my Alma Mater, and the night before we had jackasses running around the dorm spraying fire extinguishers all over the place, so my coworker and I dealt with that crap for hours, and hours....This took place friday night, and leaked into saturday morning. By the time all of the madness was over it was 6am...I couldn't get to sleep, and I finally went down around 9:3oam.

The rub was...I was suppose to go to SW Missouri for my date at 10am...from KS, to SW Missouri is about a 3hr drive, and I left a message on my friends phone saying, I didn't want to go, just forget about it all....but, she didn't heed my call...she came to my dorm, got keys to my room and woke me up...so here I am...tired as can be...and I'm going to SW Missouri for a blind date of sorts....

Thats why I was so out of it at the bar, I could barely keep my eyes open, my wife at the time thought I was bored, and what not...and she thought I wasn't interested, and I was like, no its not you....if you gave me a pillow, I would fall asleep for two days to recover from friday. And it worked out, we got married about 13 months later....:D

My VERY first date every . . (And so far my only first date ever "sighs") I took her to see Save the Last Dance.. . then I tried to take her out to eat. . . but she said she had a big lunch.

Note though: She knew we were going out on a date. . I just thought it was a friendly outing to get her away from her overly protective mother . . . apparently half way through I thought "DAMN IT" it's a date.. then about near the end I was like "Hey, it's a date" then at the very end before she kissed me I was like "holy hell, this is a date" . . that lead to the kiss and my less than smooth "That never happened before"

At least that was our first "official" date.

Before that, we spent one night hanging out with a mutual friend who introduced us to each other in a bar. He's the ONLY man I've ever met who has not only read Bukowski's poetry but also knew Stoppard's plays well enough to recognize a quote and reply with the next line.

Oh--and we drank a lot...

I married him a few years later.

66. My worst first (blind) date ever: I took the girl to the Emergency Room...
Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 07:39 PM by IanDB1
...to visit her ex-boyfriend, who had just tried to kill himself after she broke-up with him.

And then, on the way to drive her home, we got a flat tire.

A short while later, a police car pulls along side us to see what we're doing parked in a church parking lot at two in the morning. The cop calls a tow truck for us (I didn't have a spare), and we were told they wouldn't be able to get to us for at least two more hours.

Meanwhile, the girl tells me she has pot with her... in my car... with a cop sitting next to us.

I don't know why, but the cop stayed there for HOURS.

The towtruck finally comes, and gets us to my house just as the sun was coming up.

I offer to wake-up my dad to get the girl home.

That's when she tells me that she snuck-out of the house without her parents' permission, and will need to climb in a window in the front of the house.

That wasn't something I wanted to explain to my dad, so I stole his car to bring her home.

I wasn't allowed to drive my dad's car, because I wasn't insured for it under his lease.

But stealing his car seemed better to me (at the time) than explaining about this strange looking girl who had to climb-in through her window.

So, I got her home without incident. Made it home myself-- again, without incident. I thought everything was going to be okay. But then...

As I walked in the door about 6 AM, my dad was awake, and he was REALLY mad.

I told him the whole story of what happened, leaving out ONLY three details:

1) The fact that she had pot.
2) The fact that she snuck out the window of her house.
3) The fact that I stole his car.

He didn't believe ANY of it! He thought I was making the whole thing up.

He just got MORE and MORE mad at me, and I started to get mad at him for not believing me, so I decided the only thing I could do was come COMPLETELY clean about EVERYTHING (except that she had pot)!

Including stealing his car!

"If I'm admitting to you that I stole your car, can you POSSIBLY imagine I have ANYTHING worse I could POSSIBLY be lying about?"

Well...

Finally!

He believed me!

But boy, I was in BIG trouble.

Worst.

First.

Date.

Ever.

70. Well-we went up to Saratoga
where my horse naturally won. Then, we flew my Lear jet to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun.

Really, though, we went to dinner at Peican's, then to tht movies to see "Star Wars"-the real one.

71. Most memorable first dates
My wife and I went to the mall and then to the movies on our first date. This may not seem special but we were talking in the food court about relationships and I (in jest) asked her to marry me and kissed her for the first time. We then spent the next hour before the movie looking at crystal and china patterns (with no serious intentions of getting married).

I also once took a girl to a fireworks display then to my favorite pier here in Kitsap County which has a PHENOMENAL view of Downtown Seattle from across the Puget Sound. We sat on the pier talking and holding hands for a very long time. Total cost of date: ZERO and she said it was the best date she had gone on in the time she was here visiting her sister (she was from Kansas and I met her in the parking lot of a grocery store - I just walked up to her and said HI then we went out a week later). She left 5 days later and I never saw her again.

Sometimes the simplest first dates are the most memorable.

in fact, I didn't know it was a date. We had been friends for a few years but this was our first time out alone together. And we have now been together for 6 years.

(I'm so happy for you guys!!!)

76. My house usually....
A fire, nice dinner, great music, lots of wine, hot tub, hopefully great conversation and whatever else that may lead to.

I'm one of those cheap dates but expensive wives.
