he has the ability to act flamboyant and over-the-top without appearing condescending or cartoonish. this could be good.

this piques my interest:

Perhaps belying unrequited rock star ambitions, Depp also said in a 2005 interview that he would be interested in portraying late Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett in a biopic.
