My daughter called me yesterday from Waynesville MO where she currently resides (I am in Denton, TX) toe tell me about a nice thing that happened to her.

Let me back up. The other day she was at the public library and there was this kitten outside who seemed definitely unattached as it was hungry and dirty. Well, my daughter has been brought up to be a caring individual who cannot just leave a hungry little kitty out in the snow on a freezing night like they had the other night. She brought the kitty home to the apt. she shares with her fiance er, significant other who is a drill seargent at Ft. Leonard Wood. (as long as she's happy, right?, but I digress)

She planned to take him to the shelter the next morning - the kitty, not the drill seargent- but the next day was unable to find a local shelter that was not animal control. She located one in Lebanon MO (about 30 miles away) but she would need $10, and her bank account was overdrawn. She went by the bank and found out that it was over by $7.00 which was like $30 something after they tacked on the fees. The teller went to the manager to get the fee waived, and the manager said no they just couldn't waive it this time(she's kinda been in this situation before). The teller then said But she's my favorite customer!

The manager said to just tell her to bring it back to balance in the next couple of days, and withdrew the fee.

Anyway, I told her it was Kitty Karma.

Note: any percieved negativity about my daughter's choice for a ... for a..., well, you know... was only included for humorous effect and are not necessarily the opinions of the father. :sarcasm:

I still don't know what happened to the cat. Unfortunately she really can't afford to keep it right now. For some reason beyond my comprehending, she would rather keep the drill seargent LOL go figure!

1. well, 8 years ago I found a kitten in China town

I was meeting some friends for dinner and I was early. I was just getting over a bad cold so I thought I'd look for a place where I could get a cup of tea. I turned down a side street and passing an abandoned store I heard - meow, meow.

It was coming from behind one of those metal gates they pull down when a store is closed. A waitress from the restaurant across the street came over and said, aw, did the little kitty come out yet. Apparently he had come out earlier in the day.

So I went to the pizza place next door and got some anchovies to try and lure him out. No luck.

It was time to meet my friends, so I went and when I got there I said, who wants to go rescue a kitten?

So after dinner we all went. Now there was a crowd gathered outside the gate trying to get the cat to come out. A bunch of guys all got together and tried to raise it. Finally the kitten wandered out. He was the cutest little thing, and I felt like we made eye contact and bonded instantly. But inspite of the bond, he ran away - into the street and up into the engine of a BMW parked on the street.

Someone kicked the car tire to make the alarm go off, summoning the owner of the BMW who opened the hood. We stood there for an hour trying to extracate the cat from the engine. It was a cold January night - must have been warm in there.

So eight years later, Beemer, as it was dubbed, is my little cat baby. I actually don't live with him anymore because I moved in with a girl who has really bad allergies, but he still lives with my ex and my son and I visit him once a week. Well, I visit my son too.

Not sure where the karma fits in, but maybe it will be apparent one day.

4. When I lived in Salt Lake I fed about 4 feral cats

We had a fenced in patio and they would come and they knew they would always get food and water and a safe place to sleep.
I lost a job in the fall of '97 and although I got another pretty quick money was kind of tight. One Sunday I saw a PetsMart ad where they were promoting a certain type of cat food. The promotion was if you brought in an empty bag of cat food, you got a free bag of the promotional one. So I took an empty bag of my cat's food to the PetsMart and got a free bag of food for the kitties. This allowed me to feed them until I started getting another paycheck.
