Need help with firewall setting. #@&*^%# computer!
running windows xp
free avg anti-virus
firefox

Can't connect to internet or email.
The dreaded 'server not found'.

Been through the whole enchilada with isp tech help.
Bottom line: i can ping and all that stuff, dsl-pipe modem is working fine.
2 other computers online, no prob, through same dsl, one wirelsss (this one with Lynksys Wireless 2.4 ghz router) and one hardwired.

The tech guy says the problem is with my firewall (microsoft). Said it's set at too restrictive a level and I need to tweak it up a bit.

I have the windows firewall menu up, but see no way to change any settings.
HALP?

Many thanks.

I think you may need to enable some ports to allow net traffic

21 for FTP
80 for HTTP (web)
3389 for HTTPS (secure connection websites) on edit:that's remote desktop
25 for incoming mail (POP mailservers)
110 for incoming mail (SMTP mailservers)

but the gurus over in computer help can give much more in depth support.

4. Oh yeah. ad infinitum.
The dsl works, the wireless router works, the hard wired puter is online and so is the wireless.
All through the same dsl box.
