5. I'm not certain, but...
...I think there's probably something in the manual that recommends against doing that. It's probably in the small print along with the warning about not touching your tongue to the battery terminals and not attempting to use the device to activate penile implants.

14. I always read the manual...
...about five minutes after my shiny new gizmo spontaneously transforms itself into a smoking heap of molten plastic. "Oh," I say, "who knew poking inside it with a knife would cause that to happen?"

16. In future, put your misbehaving electronics in the Microwave.
The result is the same as stepping on them, but it's far more entertaining.

You may, however, subsequently have to buy a new microwave.

24. I feel your pain.
Well, not anymore since I have a shiny new opener. We've lived here for three years, and the house came with one garage door opener. No biggie- it only has a single car garage.

But the opener. My gawd. I opened it up one time to change the battery, and spotted the mechanism for setting the code. It was a series of 8 "switches" that could be put in either an on or off position. The damned thing was probably 20 years old. It'd work occaisonally, especially if I reached up and whacked the main unit on the ceiling of the garage. It'd work once or twice and the stop working.

But the new one... sigh. Click. Open. Click. Close. Click. Open. Click. Close.

Serenity.

28. Did you remember to write down what kind it was
BEFORE you threw it on the ground and danced a jig on it?

You're going to need to know that to get a new one.

Oh yeah, incidental spam follows: if your old opener (actually, old REMOTE--the "opener" is the thing hanging down from the ceiling of your garage that has the door hooked to it) wasn't one of those "rolling code" kinds, and you really want a rolling-code kind (this means it changes the code your opener responds to every time you activate the unit, so the bad guys can't get in so easily) you can buy the rolling-code transmitter and receiver without having to buy a whole new door to go along with it.
