Damn, damn, damn. Bad news from Mom
My grandmother's partner, Mike, just had a massive stroke. They do not expect him to live. He had a living will and DNR, so no extreme measures. That's probably a good thing. My grandmother is in rehab from her recent stroke. He is about 80, not sure exactly. The thing is, my aunt, who was has been shuttling back and forth to see my grandmother, thought something might have been wrong with Mike but no one was really checking up on him that much. He was by himself in that big old house and had apparently been lying there all day before his son found him last night. It sucks. He is such a nice guy. He loved my grandmother. They've been living together, not married, for about 20 years. I did not know him that well but still, it's upsetting. I am now extremely worried about my grandmother. If he isn't there to visit her every day, I can't imagine she will last too long herself. And I haven't seen her since a couple of years before her stroke. I live in deep south Texas and she is in Minnesota, at least a two-day drive. Right now I can't afford to go there so I won't go to his funeral, whenever that may be. But I need to see her soon. I don't want the last time to be at HER funeral.

6. I'm so sorry for the pain and suffering your
family is going through at this time. Your Grandmother must feel very sad and alone. It would be really nice if you could manage a trip up there to see her. He was obviously someone very dear to her .. and I can understand your concern.

best wishes for Mike, your Grandmother and for you too alarimer.

7. I will go sometime soon
Probably March I am thinking. I may try to coordinate with my sister who lives in Illinois, sort of halfway.

Thank you.

9. UPDATE: Mike died last night
Mom just called. It's probably better this way; there was no hope of recovery apparently. Still, I am mostly worried for my grandmother.
