That's it. I'm getting some bolt cutters and lopping it off.
I have an arthritis-related condition known as "hammertoe". Which is to say the first joint of each of my toes is curled over at an ungodly angle and the joints are actually fused. Over time this can create various problems, including terminal ingrown toenails and such. About three years back I had one toe that had become so ungodly painful I actually talked the surgeons into chopping it off.

Well, it's happening again, and you have no idea how painful it can be. The mere act of pulling off my shoe can be agony! Pain pills don't touch the pain, and there's no real way around it- not even expensive, form-fitting shoes can stop it.

I'm almost to the point of following through on the action indicated in thread title, but I guess I'll wait for the doctors to do it for me a second time.

But I won't wait long.

Damn, arthritis is a pain in the foot!

2. Ow!
I've heard of it but never knew exactly what is was. Did a surgeon really cut one of your toes off? Sorry you're in so much pain.

:hi:

3. I told him either it would either be his scalpel or my cutters.
He wisely took me seriously.

It reminds me of my brother- when he had his leg amputated (due to diabetes) he told the surgeon he wanted it so he could have it stuffed and mounted so he could give it to his boss to show him he really HAD been in pain (he worked at the post office). The surgeon declined to agree to this.

I don't know why... (True story)

6. Very astute of your brother's surgeon!
Did you know women are 9X more likely to get hammertoes than men?

Arthritis sucks. I have a friend with rheumatoid arthritis and she's in constant pain.

Hang in there!

7. Only one small problem with that
My doctors are all at the Dallas VA Hospital. I have to go by their schedule, which means such a procedure can take up to half a year to put into motion.

That's the downside of having no health insurance...

8. I'm sorry for your pain.
My DH has a hammer toe on one foot. I can't imagine the pain you are in. I am always massaging and stretching the toe to stop the pain from settling in. I hope you don't have to resort to removing digits to fix the problem. :(

I hope you feel better soon.
