Accountants/Mathematicians: a question |
|
I've heard (in the context of balancing a checkbook) that if you divide by nine, you know the discrepancy is an error. Or something like that.
How does that work?
:dunce: or maybe it's too early on a Saturday to think.

1. May indicate transposition of two digits |
|
If you do not balance and the out-of-balance difference is divisible by 9, they the error may be a transposing of two digits. e.g 47 instead of 74.
Anyway, that's what I remember from an accounting class long ago.
