Do you use GEICO car insurance? Did you? Do/did you like it?
I can save about $120 a year by switching to GEICO - is the switch worth it?

Considering I've never been in an accident that I have been the cause of, no traffic tickets, nothing - I'm an insanely safe driver... so the chances of me needing a claim are smaller than, say, a lot of other people.

What is your experience with GEICO?

Please, personal stories only - no second-hand stories.

Thanks!!!

3. had a neighbor YEARS ago who worked for them
she used to brag that they offered low rates because they found ways to NOT pay out if an accident

4. I have been with GEICO for years.
They have been very good at service, what few claims I've had were paid quickly. And I love the ability to pay online. They have never jacked my rates for fender benders.

5. I've used GEICO for about 5 years.
I have a clean driving record and an older vehicle ('93 Toyota), so I only have need for the state-required minimum liability insurance - basically just enough to get the necessary yearly inspection and license stickers required in Texas.

Total cost? $460 per year.

For my purposes, GEICO works well - I send them a check every 6 months then forget about them until the next bill arrives.

6. I joined GEICO a couple of months ago.
I got a huge range of online quotes from insurers and GEICO was the cheapest by between $50 and $100. Since I've been living in Europe for a long time, I effectively have no driving record in the US and only recently got my CA license. My premium was still pretty reasonable. GEICO's website is also very good, making it easy to work out your coverage options, pay, and then print out the necessary documents. They won't even send your policy docs in the mail if you don't want them to. The docs sit in a secure section of the website and you can just print them out when/if you need them.

I haven't claimed yet, so I don't know how good they are at settling.

7. The problem is you do not have an agent to go to bat for you.
My son was in a rear end accident last year. Her had to go get the estimates fight with the othe guy's insurance because Geico is sold through brokers, not insurance agents. You do save money, but you have to do the fighting, not Geico.

8. Been with them for 8 years
I've only filed one claim with them after a drunk dumbass smashed my windshield and driver side window out, guy got into an argument in a bar and left and smashed my windows thinking it belonged to the person he was arguing with. I paid $100 deductible and they covered the other $400+. They were real pleasant to deal with on the phone.

10. I had a huge claim (not my fault) and they were fantastic.
Friendly, professional, helpful, and did all the work for me. They gave me a gigantic check for repairs and actually apologized that it took them MORE THAN TWO DAYS.

(It only took them a week...it happened over Christmas.)

I loves me some Geico, and they do save me money.

11. I have GEICO and I am so thankful!!!!
Our car was recently involved in a hit and run. Someone had hit 3 parked cars in our complex one morning. We called GEICO told them what happened, and they told us to call them back when we had all the info. There was a lot of weird incidentals involving the case and we didn't hear anything for 2 weeks. When we finally heard something and called GEICO they told us to go get an estimate of the damage, send it to them, and they would cut us a check minus the $500 deductible. It would be ours to put in the bank and fix the car when we are ready. They told us from there on out it would be there job to go after the guy who hit our car. All this is amazing considering the guy who hit us has no insurance. GEICO is going to give us the money to fix our car without any hassle. I could not be more pleased. They also offered us a rental car with that if we needed one.

I know this is just one experience, but because it is happening right now, I thought I would share.

13. I have three vehicles insured by Geico
Last October my daughter was turning left on a green arrow, and was blind-sided by a woman running the red light. Did over $7K in damage to my car.

Paid without a hitch, even when more damage was discovered after the original estimate was submitted. They even took the other insurance company to arbitration to get my deductible back.

No complaints here.

14. I have had Geico for a year or two, back when I had a car
Since I never had to file a claim, insurance is just money that the state forces me to spend and I get nothing for it. So why not pay as little as possible.

My 2nd hand story is that another person told me they handled a claim very well, but fortunately, I have no personal experience with it.

16. We've been with GEICO for about nine years...
No problems at all, and the rates are a lot better than what we could have gotten elsewhere. We've never had to file a claim, but my sister had to (she uses GEICO too) and had great service. :)

18. Erie Insurance was cheaper than GEICO and I get 1st accident forgiveness
If you have your homeowner's and auto together, you often will get a discount on your auto insurance.

I had GEICO years ago and didn't like them. It is a long story, though.

21. I like 'em.
I checked with them about homeowner's insurance, and they hooked me up with a company that doesn't mind pit bulls.

Ooops, guess I shouldn't mention pit bulls. :hide:

22. I used them as my insurer and was quite happy with them.
However, since they do not offer homeowners insurance (except for acting as an agent for Traveler's and for which they do not offer discounts), I had to leave them. I work for a major insurance company now, and am a customer of their. Their homeowners insurance was MUCH cheaper than Traveler's and with the discounts, my auto insurance is cheaper.

But, GEICO did really well for me for a number of years.

23. Did they insure your golf cart, too?
I'm thinking that with all that gin-addled golfing you do, you must have tipped a few.

Nah, just kidding.

Thanks for the note!

24. Thanks everyone for your helpful replies!!
I did realize later last night that I also have renter's insurance through my current insurer... so maybe it isn't worth the switch...

But I'm glad to know that there are so many more positive versus negative experiences with GEICO. Something to keep in the back of my head as my insurance becomes due for the next 6 months.

Thanks, all!
