6. My plans: powerful painkillers taken with a shot or two
of tequila. Not really. I'll make something special and celebrate it with my kids. The STBE is mumbling about going out for dinner but that would be truly depressing so I'd rather not.

I met my sweetie through DU as well, at a DU meetup in Rapid City, SD, last summer, with some of the South Dakota posters. We didn't actually start dating until September, though, but I've never been happier and now I truly know what being in love is really all about!

22. No kidding
That day is always such a crazy rush at restaurants. Frankly, I'd rather have a romantic meal at home, splurging on indulgent items not on your regular grocery list. Both of you can drink as much wine with dinner without worrying who has to drive home. And you can get as romantic as you want over dinner without worrying about making a scene.

29. You're right.
Then tradition started (day before or day after thing I mentioned above ) when the restaurant "lost" the reservation. We ended up eating about 3-4 hours late and the kitchen no longer had what we wanted etc. Ever since then we go out when things are not so hectic.

60. I used to feel as discouraged and depressed as you
since none of mine ever seemed to work out and I never really had that "special" feeling about anyone I was with, until last fall. Then I found out what I've been missing all these years and what being in love truly feels like. Don't give up! I know I used to hate, hate, hate hearing that when I was alone, but it really is true. And you need to be content and secure with yourself as single before you can really have a successful relationship, so build an active, involved life and you'll be surprised at what happens!

But I know what you mean, I used to absolutely hate Valentine's Day most of the time. Even when I was involved with someone, I never had that "feeling" you're supposed to have. Until now. This is the first time I've ever really, truly looked forward to Val. Day.

55. Well, since this is the first Valentine's Day in quite a while
that I will actually not only be with someone but with someone who is now the ultimate love of my life, I'm planning on a wonderful, romantic, fulfilling evening with him. For the first time in more years than I care to count, I'm actually looking forward to Val. Day. Even in the past when I've been with someone, it wasn't nearly as special as it is now with him, now that I truly know what being in love is really like!

I used to absolutely hate Valentine's Day, especially the cultural assumption that everyone had someone and that if you didn't there was something wrong with you. I hated all the flower and candy deliveries for all of the other women at work, their chatter about their looking forward to their romantic evenings, etc., etc. No more! So, those of you who are either alone or in bad relationships, believe me, I know exactly how you feel about the day and why. But just remember, there WILL come a time when things will change!!! I never thought it would with me, but I couldn't be happier now.

61. I celebrated Valentine's Day tonight
Yeah, call me crazy but we did.

First of all, here's a pic of my ">roses...

I arranged the roses myself, photographed them and put them on a pink background. We also had wine and chocolates.

Why celebrate early? Because last year the $90 red roses died in about three days. I was so disappointed and disgusted. I learned it was true that roses on Valentine's Day don't last so long and that is because the demand requires that the industry start shipping them so early. The only way I could figure to beat this was to buy and celebrate early.

74. No big plans. It falls on a Wednesday this year, so that's problematic.
middle of the work week, school week...blah, blah, blah....For the day of, I'll probably make some sort of nice family dinner for us and then the following holiday weekend we have plans to go up to SF to see James Taylor in concert and spend a romantic night away, on our own! :woohoo:

82. Nothing. My husband will be out of town on a business trip
Not that it really matters...it's not like we ever do anything for Vday. I don't like chocolate and I buy my own flowers so there's really not much for him to do. I don't wear jewelry, I don't have any use for Hallmark cards and we're still romantic on a regular basis so what's the point?

I'll probably buy my daughter a small teddy bear or something and surprise her with it when she wakes up on Vday morning. If I can, I might go to her class party later that day.

83. We celebrate, but never on Feb 14
we go out a day or two before or after to avoid the high-priced "special" Valentine's Day menus. We'll probably go to a BYOB that's a little above our regular price range.

God bless Philadelphia, where the crazy price for a liquor license has caused BYOBs to flourish and thus has made dining out quite affordable! And where theres's an abundance of wonderful and creative family-owned restaurants.

105. Kids to school, do a few appraisals (provided it's a weekday) and
then I make an ethnic themed dinner and we pretend we've traveled to that place by decorating the house, reading up on the culture, enjoying each other's company. The four of us have done this for about 5 years now. I'm having trouble picking a country this year though.
