1. Well, you can see that a woman is overweight
But you can't always tell if a man is unsuccessful.

2. As far as a man being succesful or not
In some circles, a man becoming successful gets treated poorly by those who perceive themselves as being left behind. The Edwards house threads show some of this mentality.

Everywhere except the South, there's really nasty discrimination against fat people.

Hell, even pudgy people.

6. It's only getting worse, too.
The message in the media has become, flat-out, "Kill the 'obese.'"

8. It is more like overweight women and morbidly obese men
Men who are slightly overweight might even be seen as stronger, even if he really, isn't, and more manly.
Sometimes women who aren't even overweight are seen as fat and are encouraged to restrict and exercise a lot.

7. Treated badly by society...
... I would say single unsuccessful men. They are the only social group that I can think of that actually has prejudice institutionalized against them. They have different insurance rates, harsher standards on pre-sentencing reports, etc.

Heavier people in general are discriminated against.

9. Overweight people
because it's obvious. No change of clothes will hide it.

I know unsuccessful people who dress very well so you wouldn't know by looking what their circumstances really are. There are also successful people who dress like bums at times.

If your talking about dating for instance, unsuccessful men are treated worse.

I say do this little expertment

Take a guy say he's single who is currently unemployed have him go up to 10 random single women. Have him be honest and say he doesn't have a job right now, watch how many women show the least bit of interest.

Take a chick say she's single and is consider 25 ibs overweight have her go up to 10 random single men. Have her mention the job she works, watch how many more men show a bit of interest.

I didn't mention the weight thing cause people can clearly see that. but just my observations, women put more value on a guy having a steady income then men do with the appearance of women. You can take the biggest loser unemployed male and you can take the biggest loser overweight female and the do this same process, the overweight loser female will get interest before the unemployed loser male because males have lower standards.

11. I think that women of a certain class are concerned about his status
If he is unemployed. Working class women are concerned that he will be a financial drain on her, especially if she is struggling herself and more so if she has children.
I don't think that a female low wage manufacturing or service employee is likely to treat men who do the same type of work badly though.
